A 21 year old student pilot who crashed his Cessna 172 while on a solo flight in Adelaide on Monday calmly talks about the accident moments later in an interview with local media. The Cessna crashed onto the runway and caught fire at Parafield Airport in Adelaide’s north about... 12.30pm. Trainee pilot Youngin Kim, 21, quickly jumped out before the blaze really took hold, destroying the plane and spreading to nearby grass. Kim has been flying since September and has taken to the skies solo just three times. He was on his first solo circuit of the day when the accident occurred. He said he was travelling slower than usual on approach to the runway and tried to adjust his speed before touching down “quite hard”. He was unhurt but was taken to a nearby medical clinic as a precaution. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been notified of the emergency and is investigating.show more
