🏝️ Bali's trash burning problem has just reached new toxic heights This week, Bali's biggest landfill has been ordered to close. The landfill is a more than 35 meter high mountain of decaying trash covering 32 hectares. It's closed because the gases emanated from it are toxic and ground water is being contaminated This means there's no other landfill of this size near to accept Bali's current trash. So the government has instructed people that "household waste should be disposed of at home" which in Bali means burning it! Trash burning has been a tradition for centuries in Bali (and Indonesia), but it used be mostly organic matter that was being burned Once plastic arrived the tradition didn't change though and locals started burning plastic too, pumping toxic gases into the air causing massive spikes of lung cancer and other respiratory diseases The tradition means on a daily basis around 7 in the morning and 6 in the evening, your neighbours will be burning their trash, and if you're not lucky there's a construction site near which will burn even more but all day! Burning plastic means you emit dioxins and furans, some of the most potent human carcinogens that exist I have friends in Indonesia with family with lung cancer cases, it's a real thing. My fear with Bali has always been that the digital nomads there might not realize the slow danger creeping up on them. You get used to the trash burning and polluted air very quickly in Bali and it probably doesn't affect you over a year or so But if you're there for many years, it will in some way or the other! For a community that's so about fitness and health, air quality is weirdly a consideration mostly overlooked in Bali

The moisture question always comes up when I post pics of my indoor pools on my new builds. Step by step below on how I control it. We create a room where moisture can’t escape into other areas of the home while also having a mechanical system in place to pull the moisture out of the air so mildew/mold don’t ever develop in the pool room itself. In the STR space, investors are trying to stand out. Pools rent. Indoor pools rent even better. You can swim in the winter or summer. 1) Pool is always built on lowest floor inside (generally basement structure) 2) Concrete block wall for basement with very little wood frame 3) Densglass (kind of like a moisture resistant drywall) attached to concrete block 4) Special stucco just like you see on exterior of homes sprayed onto Densglass. The stucco is dyed to color of my choice. 5) Industrial grade dehumidifier (I use Santa Fe or Watchdog Brand). The humidity pulled from air is pumped back into the pool system near the mechanical room or outside. 6) Mini split for the pool room. Main floor HVAC covers the sleeping rooms, bathroom of basement and is always separated from pool room. You don’t want chlorinated air running through a main HVAC system. I look at having to replace the minisplit & dehumidifier about every 4 to 5 yrs because of the chlorinated air that goes through them. 7) Exhaust Fan leading to exterior which also pulls humid air out of the room as a supplemental support for the dehumidifier. When overhead lights are turned on, we have it so the exhaust fan kicks on as well. That’s it. We create a “bubble”, where no moisture gets into the other areas of home and the humid air gets pulled from the pool room.

I have never encountered this in China. This is my first time in Hopson One, the 190,000 square meter mall with over 260 places to eat alone in downtown Beijing. It is in the center of four subway lines, and this crowd is crazy. You literally have to wait in line to use the escalator, and you can forget about using the elevator… that's not happening. We took people here because on the fifth floor there is an area with about ten EV brands where you can sit in the cars and experience them. It's part of our Youth Tech China Trek. It is our last day, just a short stop to relax, but it is really giving people a view into how much activity and bustle there is in China. I haven't seen this in any other malls, which look more like American ones, frankly, with a lot less traffic. But this one is so crowded. I was actually here yesterday (Friday night at 9:30pm, right before closing) to confirm which EV models were on display, and there were still lines!!!

April 30 • 12:00pm ET Art Blocks + OpenSea “Gift of time” began during my residency in Marfa, Texas, as part of the Art Blocks and OpenSea artist residency program, where a distinct shift in the experience of time became central to the work. In the desert, I felt time move differently. It stretched, slowed, and became something I noticed. After a few days, the rhythm changed. Moments felt longer, attention sharpened, and I became increasingly aware of each moment as it passed. This work comes from that condition. Time is not treated only as a theme, but as a system embedded in the structure of the piece. Different ways of measuring time, such as mechanical cycles, calendars, and lunar phases, are translated into rules that continuously transform the work. The piece does not represent time. It runs on it. Its movement is tied to blockchain time. Even when unseen, it continues to rotate and evolve. When loaded, it synchronizes with the present moment, but it does not begin when it is viewed, and it does not stop when it disappears from the screen. During the residency, I spent hours thinking, sketching, and making connections. Those connections are also visible. Elastic lines, like rubber bands, link elements across the piece, representing how memories connect, how one thought leads to another, and how everything builds over time. These same connections introduce moments where the system attempts to pull itself back, as if trying to regain control. But it never fully resets. It is not a loop. The movement continues, drifting forward, never returning to a fixed state. Visually, the work reveals its own construction. Lines, paths, and rotations expose an internal logic, like looking inside a mechanism. The drawing language recalls diagrams, technical sketches, or the interior of a mechanical watch. It is a system in motion, always active. “Gift of Time” exists because I was given time by Art Blocks, OpenSea, and above all my family. It is my way of saying thank you. Back in December: Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 opened a 500-bed mega-hospital, with nine more on the way.
