200 vegetable packages were distributed in the Yarmouk Camp in Khan Younis, donate: Each package had 1.5 kilos of eggplants and 1 kilo of molokhye and cost $43 per bag with 10% commission. Total was $8,600. Vegetables are grown in Gaza and sourced from farmers in bulk. Unfortunately prices are extremely high and the people in Gaza can’t afford them. This time around, the Sameer Project wants to work with APN on growing wheat. Each donom will cost $500 in Central Gaza and we are hoping to collaborate on 10 donoms for $5,000. On the 28th of July we distributed 8,000 liters to Nakhil camp in Zawayde and 8,000 liters to Asqalan camp in Western Deir El Balah. We recently found a kitchen running and serving potatoes and eggplants with tahini so we immediately purchased the whole amount, donate: We were so happy to find a meal with carbs and veggies to serve. The Sameer Project x Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine) ) team provided 8 pots to the Chalets Camp in Gaza City in Northern Gaza. Each pot cost $845 so the 8 pots in total cost $6,760 with 10% commission. Vegetables are sourced from local farms at incredibly high prices. Each pot provides 80-90 servings and depending on the size of pot can feed 4-7 people. Starting from today rice meals are $9 so we are doubling up on all numbers with aid trucks coming in and more goods available, donate: So far the trucks mainly had sugar, flour and rice, we pray that meat and a variety of vegetables and fruit comes in. On August 1st prices were still at $17.50 per plate and we distributed 225 meals (800g per meal) at Al Katiba Camp, Konia, in Al Rimal. The total cost was $3,938 with 10% commission. This week we are doing 10 pots a day in the South and distributing to different camps. We ensure that spices and oil are added as well. Donate here: Each pot of courgette costs $543 so the total for the daily distribution is $5,430. We pay 3% commission to do a bank transfer. We are avoiding cash payments for food as the commission for that is 35% - 40% due to lack of cash in the market. Our chuffed updates include a list every days of all our distributions and prices. When you donate you can sign up to getting them via email. Few trucks came in today with Nescafé and chocolate, and items with empty calories and little nutrients. Aid is political. We’ve said this over and over again, and the proof is the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation that kills people every single day who are trying to get aid. Support us: Due to lack of funds, we stopped distributing pots in the North and are sticking to 10 pots of lentils in the South. Each pot costs $370 so the total is $3,700. If we want to do vegetable pots the cost is $645 so it would cost $6,450 but we can’t afford that right now. These prices are at a commission of 3% but there is also 7% that we pay to our fiscal host (Social Change Nest). So the full amount for lentil pots is $395 and vegetable pot is $692. As long as borders are closed, the prices of food will remain incredibly high and without more donations, we will have to be limited to rice and lentil distributions. Yarmouk camp in Khan Younis is one of the largest and most struggling camps. The Sameer Project distributed 530 meals of rice in the Jeya street part of the camp. Support: Each meal weighs 800 grams and costs $9.15 with 10% commission. On that day 1,000 meals of rice were distributed but for Yarmouk Camp alone the total cost was $4,850. Next week our main focus will be rice meals in the South as vegetables in Gaza are decreasing due to the end of season. We are exploring the options of providing nutritious meals for mass distribution but unfortunately the options now are limited. Most available stews are lentils, pasta, bulgur and rice. We work closely with kitchens to ensure that the food uses oil, spices and sufficient quantities. This distribution included 15 pots of spaghetti each costing $402. With 3% commission, the total was $6,211. The total cost was $5,888 with 10% commission. Support: Vegetable prices vary by the day but with bulk purchases, we manage to get better prices. We choose eggplants and molokhye as these can be meals rather than vegetables like cucumber with low calories. With markets still empty, the Sameer Project continues to do mass vegetable distributions. Borders néed to open and aid needs to flow in as despite the distributions families get very minimal food. Each family is an average of 7 people meaning they get a few bites each day. Walking barefoot in high temperatures causes burns and infections in children’s feet. Shoes distributions are an important part of the Sameer Project initiatives, donate: Small steps (Small Steps Project) funded shoe distributions in the past and we recently collaborated on a new distribution. We got 60 pairs trainers for $21 a pair with 10% commission so the total was $1,260. The Sameer Project distributed these shoes to children in the Sadaqa camp (translates to friendship) in Deir El Balah. We are looking to do more shoe distributions during this tough time. Thousands are being displaced with NOWHERE to go! Support now: The military occupation announced Khan Younis as the only “safe place,” while the bombing and killing continues in every inch of Gaza. Hundreds of families were displaced from the North to the South seeking refuge only to find that there is no space and constant bombing. The situation is BEYOND horrific. 2,500 meals of rice were distributed on August 27th, 680 of those were to families moving from North to South on Rasheed Street. Each meal feeds 2-3 people so thanks to your support, around 1,700 people being displaced got some food. We strongly reject the forced displacement and for those forced and with no alternative, we will continue to provide support.
