A great example of why tree ties must be fixed firmly to stakes. The stem abrasion damage is obvious. It was the same for all the trees. It's a catalogue of incompetence in every aspect, from design to contract oversight, on the A27 near Lewes. Disappointing, isn't it!

Sadly environmental matters are often treated no better than just being a tick boxing exercise. It only matters that trees were planted not that they were planted properly.

Plant and forget, rather than plant and maintain.

Or plant trees small enough not to need stakes!

I heard not staking so trees can sway in the wind promotes stronger rooting.

That's quite right when they are up to around 1.5 m, but any taller and they may need stakes.

Look at the diameter of the stakes! 😳🙄 That cost a few £££ 🤦🏻‍♀️

Not sure what BS the trees adhere to, but they look poor grade stock to me, a disaster from the start.

On the bright side, all the death and destruction should be good for habitat, but a better option may have been to spend the money on fencing and let nature do the rewilding!

It seems to me that they plant trees but do not return to look after and check on them
