There should be an emergency call button on the outside of the vehicle so pedestrians can talk to car operators to notify them of car meltdowns like this. Or is that being too logical?

Adding more LiDAR could potentially help by improving object detection and providing redundancy, possibly aiding the Waymo vehicle in navigating around the tram. LiDAR's high-resolution 3D mapping is valuable in complex urban settings. However, the issue might stem from software limitations or sensor integration, not just sensor quantity. If the software failed to process data correctly, more LiDAR may not solve the problem. Industry debates, with some favoring LiDAR and others like Tesla using cameras, highlight the complexity. Without specific incident details, it's hard to say definitively, but software improvements are likely as crucial as additional sensors.
