What if a dexterous robot could learn a 20+ step chemistry experiment without a single on-robot training demo? Meet TwinDEX: a pair of co-designed, three-finger, nine-DoF dexterous manipulation interface: one wearable for data collection, one for robot deployment. The twinned design shares identical kinematics, contact surfaces, visual appearance, and sensors across collection and deployment — keeping observations and actions aligned end to end. Trained from scratch on only a few hundred wearable demonstrations - with zero on-robot training or intervention data - TwinDEX completed a standardized chemistry experiment involving tool switches, fine force control, and bimanual coordination. Robot-free data showed comparable learning efficiency on the multi-task evaluation, TwinDEX delivered 5.3 times effective throughput than on-robot teleoperation. So I heard we need more data for robot learning :) Purely real world teleop is expensive and slow, making large scale data collection challenging. I’ve been excited about getting more data into robot learning, going beyond just real-world teleop data. To this end, we’ve been scaling up data generation with RL in realistic simulations generated on the fly from crowdsourced videos. Enables realistic data collection, much more cheaply than purely real world teleop. Importantly, data collection becomes even*cheaper* with more environments, allowing training with over 100x more data. Transfers to real robots for generalizable manipulation. A 🧵 (1/N)

I was really impressed by the UMI gripper (Cheng Chi et al.), but a key limitation is that **force-related data wasn’t captured**: humans feel haptic feedback through the mechanical springs, but the robot couldn’t leverage that info, limiting the data’s value for fine-grained manipulation tasks. Led by my amazing students Yolanda Zhu and Binghao Huang, we designed a **portable visuo-tactile gripper** by integrating our dense, flexible tactile arrays with the UMI gripper to enable large-scale in-the-wild data collection. 🔗 We demonstrate **cross-modal representation learning** and **downstream policy learning** on tasks requiring in-hand state estimation (e.g., test tube reorientation) and fine-grained force sensing (e.g., pipette fluid transfer). Key takeaways: - Our flexible tactile arrays store the rich haptic information humans perceive as dense tactile signals. - Portability and robustness are key for in-the-wild data collection; our portable gripper is compact, lightweight, and durable. - Touch provides precise, robust measurements of in-hand object pose, invariant to lighting and viewpoint. - Cross-modal pretraining on large-scale in-the-wild data significantly improves policy robustness and sample efficiency (as shown many times before — and verified again here!). Trained on 460K+ tactile images using self-supervised learning. 2️⃣ Meta Digit 360 is a breakthrough artificial fingertip-based tactile sensor, equipped with 18+ sensing features to deliver detailed touch data with human-level precision and touch-sensing capabilities. 3️⃣ Meta Digit Plexus is a standardized platform for robotic sensor connections and interactions. Force is arguably the most overlooked ingredient in modern robot learning. Introducing FACTR 2: it turns *any* commodity robot into a force-aware system with no force sensors required. Train a tiny force network in <1min with <10mins of data and drop it into any existing teleop pipelines: ✅ Free force sensing for both the robot and the operator arm ✅ Makes demos higher-quality → fewer of them needed. ✅ A new force-aware learning algorithm (FIRST) uses those recovered forces to figure out which parts of a demo actually matter, making learning data-efficient. ✅ Strong performance on complex tasks with fewer demos and even no pretraining! Robots need something different: huge amounts of real action data. That’s where Axis Robotics gets interesting. $AXIS is building a data engine for Physical AI, turning robot training into something people can contribute to directly through a browser. The loop is straightforward: Generate → Collect → Process → Deploy → Correct → Repeat. 🔥 JUST IN: Open-source robotics dataset from 100% real-world scenarios! 🤯 Chinese robotics company AGIBOT just released AGIBOT WORLD 2026, an open-source dataset systematically covering key embodied AI research directions. Built entirely from real-world environments: commercial spaces, and homes. Collected using AGIBOT G2 robots in free-form collection mode, providing structured, accurately annotated, high-quality data. Digital twin technology creates 1:1 scale replicas in simulation matching the real environments. Both real-world and simulation data are open-sourced. The AGIBOT G2 platform collects multiple data types simultaneously: RGB(D) cameras, tactile sensors, force sensors, LiDAR, IMU, and full-body joint states. Whole-body control coordinates arms, waist, and hands for complex tasks. First-person teleoperation lets operators control the robot from its perspective. The tasks covered are fine-grained manipulation, ultra-long-horizon tasks, spatial navigation, dual-arm coordination, and multi-agent/human-robot collaboration. The dataset includes error-recovery trajectories with annotations. Most datasets only show successful demonstrations. AGIBOT includes failures and how the robot recovers, teaching models how to handle mistakes. After collection, data is tested through policy training and real-robot deployment to ensure quality. Then processed through industrial quality control with multiple screening and cleaning rounds. It’s inspired by a device from Stanford, but it’s even better! Here’s why: ✅ It can collect and process data in real-time, meaning no delays. ✅ It’s super easy to control, so collecting data is much faster and simpler. ✅ It can be used with different robot parts because of its smart, modular design.
