A routine traffic stop spiraled into chaos when a handcuffed suspect slipped his restraints and commandeered a Dallas police cruiser with an officer in the back seat. Officers initially stopped the car to further restrain the 37-year-old Stacey Huffman after he removed his seatbelt and tried to open the... locked rear door. Bodycam video shows once the officers stepped out of the vehicle, Huffman climbed into the driver’s seat and sped away. The suspect eventually bailed out of the car after being tased, jumping from the vehicle while still traveling around 50 mph. On March 16, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Dallas Police officers assigned to the Project Safe Neighborhood Task Force located a vehicle that was reported stolen in an armed carjacking on March 15. The officers called for additional units and AIR-1 to maintain visual contact with the vehicle before attempting a traffic stop in the 12300 block of Greenville Avenue. As officers approached and ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, the car took off, and the officers immediately began to pursue it. With AIR-1 overhead, the suspect drove the wrong way down Greenville Avenue, and officers chased the driver onto I-635 with the suspect’s speed approaching 120 miles per hour. The suspect exited the freeway at Jupiter Road and continued to speed through residential areas. Because the helicopter was tracking the suspect, officers were able to safely navigate the residential areas and surface streets, following the suspect back onto I-635. The suspect sped through a construction zone, again reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour until he exited on Town East Boulevard and headed into the City of Mesquite, driving into oncoming traffic into the 2000 block of Town East Boulevard. With traffic building ahead, the suspect attempted to drive over the median and his vehicle became disabled. Dallas Police officers, assisted by officers from Mesquite and deputies from the Dallas Sheriff’s Office, took the suspect into custody. He was identified as 46-year-old Alfredo Hernandez and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a state jail felony; Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, a third-degree felony; Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a second-degree felony; and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, a third-degree felony. The suspect then dropped the bag and started running. After a foot pursuit through the parking lot, the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect vehicle was able to avoid capture (for the time being), however, all $1,779.79 of the merchandise was recovered. The suspect, who is on parole for being a felon who possessed a firearm, was booked for grand theft, organized retail theft, conspiracy, and put on a parole hold.

Sacramento police said officers received a call about a 28-year-old homeless man, Isaac Paval, throwing a tire at a woman's car before chasing her with a big stick. Police then tried to detain Paval, who was shirtless, and after several attempts, Paval managed to get into a patrol vehicle and took off. California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit, and after ramming the back of the car, Paval motions his hands out of the window, slows the vehicle to a stop, and exits the car, lying on the ground. Paval allegedly gained access to a firearm in the patrol car and fired a shot at the police, though no one was hit. Paval, who is on pretrial probation for a DUI, was arrested and is being held for multiple felony charges.
