There was a major landslide in the same valley claiming tens lives shortly before. The location is not so suitable for human inhabitants unless sufficient geological hazard monitoring and alarming system provisions and urban planning authority have to be more prudent on the job.

Awful. Nature can change everything in minutes. Hope everyone along the Budhi Gandaki gets to safety quickly and that the damage is limited.

A FLOOD OF WOES STRIKES NEPAL AGAIN A massive dry landslide in Gorkha district has blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, triggering a sudden surge of muddy water and debris downstream. As these videos uploaded by Nepalese media and X users show the flood has swept away houses and two suspension bridges and damaged a hydropower project. Authorities have urged residents along the river to evacuate to safer ground as rescue teams assess the damage. The risk now extends along the river corridor towards the Trishuli confluence. No casualties had been reported in the initial surge.

Nepal faces another devastating flood as the Budhigandaki River sweeps away Salleri Bazaar in Gorkha. A landslide is suspected to have blocked the river before unleashing a sudden surge. Once a river is blocked, the buildup of water can turn catastrophic in minutes, leaving little time to escape. The disaster comes amid recurring flash floods and landslides across the Himalayan region, where fragile mountain slopes, intense rainfall and rising rivers pose a growing threat to small habitations living loser to the river banks in remote areas.
