With it, you produce fuel locally and moon bases become economically sustainable. This wasn't about water for drinking, this is about extracting hydrogen and using it as a fuel source. It’s about 40 to 100 meters wide and hangs out 12 times farther from us than the Moon. Scientists think it might be a chunk of our actual Moon, blasted off long ago by some ancient impact. The mission plans to bring back a sample by 2030, which would make China the first nation to return material from a near-Earth asteroid. It’s not yet clear whether Beijing believes there’s a rare mineral jackpot on this space rock, or if they’re just picking a different Moon now that the original feels kinda... western.
