A HIGH IMPACT Winter Storm could develop late this upcoming week, with the potential to bring Heavy Snow and Ice to parts of the country. 🌨️ The heaviest Snow will likely fall on the north side of this storm Friday - Sunday, wherever it ultimately tracks. That said, the most likely SNOW ZONE appears to be somewhere within the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys, though this will almost certainly shift as we get closer. ❄️Elsewhere, the Midwest will see a few rounds of light to moderate Snow Monday through Wednesday as a series of Alberta Clippers pass through. This Winter Storm will be NOTHING like last week’s storm❌ 🥶 Portions of the Carolinas will turn into SIBERIA on Saturday, as Hurricane Force Wind gusts and close to a FOOT of Snow fall at the same time. 🌀 Our Storm is what’s called a BOMB CYCLONE, meaning it is a rapidly strengthening Low Pressure System. 💨 Instead of a calm, steady Snow, conditions will be ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL inside the core of the storm as Blizzard like Snow and Wind WHIP around. 🌡️ On top of that, Temperatures will be Frigid, with Wind Chills close to 0. One aspect that isn’t being talked about enough is the combination of significant Ice Accumulations followed by days of Brutal Cold. If Texas were to receive even a fraction of the ice currently being shown, widespread power outages would become a real concern. With frigid air rushing in behind the storm, temperatures could remain at or below freezing for days, making recovery much harder. This will not be as cold as the deadly Winter Storm of 2021, but the dangerous combination of ice and prolonged cold will still be there. 🌡️ Some areas could see temperatures 30 to 40 degrees below average after the storm, which would compound impacts if outages occur. ❄️ One thing that’s NOT being talked about enough: Snow Ratios with this Storm could be WAY higher than 10:1, meaning there's a chance our Storm OVERPERFORMS A normal storm is around 10:1 (10 inches of snow from 1 inch of liquid). But when Arctic air is in place, snowflakes grow lighter, fluffier, and more efficient, and ratios SKYROCKET. Our Storm has: ✅ Arctic air firmly in place ✅ Ideal snow forming temps aloft (-12°F to -24°F) ✅ A very solid upper-level temperature profile ➡️ That supports 12:1 or even 15:1 snow ratios in spots. Every inch of liquid turns into WAY more snow. ⬇️ Bottom line: This is the kind of setup where storms *could OVERPERFORM. I would not be surprised if some areas push close to 1.5 FEET of Snow where ratios are highest. Now, I do think the Kuchera Snow Ratios are overdone, but they are likely closer than the simple 10:1 Snow ratios being show everywhere. Going to be VERY interesting to watch, my Snow-loving brotheren 👀❄️

If you like cold and snow in the East, the pattern the next 2 weeks is text book! Watch as a Giant Greenland Block intensifies and retrogrades across the Canadian Tundra through the period, forcing cold air deep south and trapping it in the Eastern US. This pattern may even have potential for Southern ❄️ ! We’ll see. For the layman, (relative) warm blocking in the Arctic “displaces” the tropospheric Polar Vortex, forcing cold southward into the US. For the weather nerds out there, the high latitude block reaches 4.5 Standard Deviations / Sigma from the mean next weekend on the European model. Easily a record. It may not verify, but if it’s even in the ballpark, it’s on like Donkey Kong! Buckle up!!

This pattern may even have potential for Southern ❄️ ! We’ll see. For the layman, (relative) warm blocking in the Arctic “displaces” the tropospheric Polar Vortex, forcing cold southward into the US. For the weather nerds out there, the high latitude block reaches 4.5 Standard Deviations / Sigma from the mean next weekend on the European model. Easily a record. It may not verify, but if it’s even in the ballpark, it’s on like Donkey Kong! Buckle up!!

🚨 It’s happening. Our Storm is entering BOMB GENESIS MODE and is now rapidly strengthening. 💨 Conditions about to head downhill in a HURRY as Winds begin to CRANK close to Hurricane Force this evening , especially near the Carolina coastline. ⏬ Over the next 24 hours, this Storm is expected to drop 35 millibars in pressure, rivaling the rate of intensification seen in some of the MOST EXTREME Hurricanes in recent years. 🌀 At peak intensity, pressure could fall as low as 967 mb, territory normally reserved for a Category 3 Hurricane. 🌬️ That kind of pressure drop will drive WIND GUSTS up to 70 mph on land, particularly along the Carolina coast. Weekend Storm Update Despite what you might have heard… I am STILL tracking the potential for a significant snow event this weekend. If it happens, the snow would arrive Sunday afternoon/evening. Model Guidance has been all over the place but I’ve been fairly consistent with my message: This looks like a Miller B Nor’Easter. Miller B storms typically have a mix line that sets up along I-78/I-80 in eastern PA and NJ. The European Model suggests that mix changes over to heavy snow as this storm strengthens. Whether or not that actually happens is pure speculation at this point. There are some non-linear processes that need to go exactly correct for this storm to produce significant snow. Powering our very unusual pattern - with early season Gulf cold fronts and strong wind shear - is an extremely amplified jet stream for September. It has thrown the whole Northern Hemisphere weather off-kilter. That means cool-dry weather this weekend for North-Central Florida about a month early! It also means hurricane killing wind shear across the Atlantic Basin! Here's the science: Warm air is being forced all the way up to the Arctic circle by an elongated jet stream. That will cause an "Omega block" to form this weekend over Central Canada - you can see the Greek Omega shape with cold air on either side. These "blocking" patterns are very tough to dislodge. Because what goes up, must come down, cool air is being forced south along the Eastern Sea Board bringing Faux Fall to Florida. Faux or not, we will take it! WFLA NEWS
