Al-‘Abr is a critical choke point for all traffic moving from the N5 Hadramawt–Mahra highway toward Ma’rib, as well as for movement from the Al-Wadi‘a Saudi border crossing into the rest of Yemen. It also serves as a transit hub for northern Shabwa, giving it exceptional strategic value.
