The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council المجلس الانتقالي الجنوبي’s response to Saudi demands for withdrawal from Hadramawt and Al Mahra, Eastern Yemen is now unmistakable. Rather than withdrawing, the STC is openly consolidating its presence through sustained mobilization of heavy weaponry, including tanks and artillery, alongside dozens of MRAPs, APCs,...

Exclusive Basha باشا A Saudi contingent from Task Force 802, previously stationed inside the Al-Ma’asheq Presidential Palace in Aden, Yemen, has withdrawn from the compound one day after President Rashad al-Alimi د/ رشاد محمد العليمي traveled to Riyadh. Shortly afterward, units of the Presidential Protection Forces loyal to President al-Alimi also pulled out. Ma’asheq: Just to confirm, this development does not indicate that the Saudi Task Force 802 stationed in Aden are withdrawing (yet) from the city. However, if such a withdrawal were to occur, it would represent a clear sign that tensions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE have reached unprecedented levels in Yemen, and it would be an extremely important and alarming indicator to monitor. With the departure of Alimi’s guards – which left carrying their weapons – the المجلس الانتقالي الجنوبي’s Southern Storm Forces and Southern Presidential Guards assumed full control of the palace. A video circulating from the scene shows members of the Southern Storm Forces and the Southern Presidential Guard dancing together, underscoring the absence of confrontation during the handover. It is noteworthy that Owsan al-Anshali, a prominent commander in the southern forces and the head of the First Presidential Guard Brigade (Southern Storm Forces) in Aden, is known to maintain a positive relationship with President al-Alimi. This connection is rooted in longstanding ties dating back to Sana’a, where al-Anshali’s father previously lived and served alongside al-Alimi in the Ministry of Interior.

Secretary-General of the UN António Guterres rides out to the defense of the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen as expected. After forces of the Southern Transitional Council took control of most of the Hadrhamaut and Al Mahra governates earlier this month, from the PLC, the internationally recognized government of Yemen which includes the Al-Islah Party (the Muslim Brotherhood branch of Yemen) Guterres now warns that the STC advance will cause ”wider escalation and further fragmentation.” The STC issued a statement hitting back at Guterres talk of “fragmentation,” stressing that South Yemen used to be a sovereign state and will soon become one again: ”South Yemen is one indivisible geographic and political unit, historically and legally a unified entity, not a collection of separate regions. Fragmentation narratives, like attempts to detach Hadramout or Al-Mahra as "exceptions," are destabilizing, dividing society and weakening collective stability against extremism. Hadramout and Al-Mahra remain core to South Yemen—politically, socially, and geographically. Ignoring this reality distorts history and misrepresents local identity. We reject "buffer zones" or special-status arguments, which prolong external control rather than safeguard populations. The demand for independence is grassroots-driven, fueled by decades of protests, sacrifices, and broad social alignment—not elite agendas. Restoring a unified South Yemen is vital for combating terrorism, as unity eliminates power vacuums that extremists exploit, ensuring regional security and peace”
