I joined CNN tonight to discuss the latest in trade talks with the United States. A deal will help us move forward, but the threats we’ve seen from the U.S. over the past several years highlight why we need to broaden our markets. We can’t rely on the U.S. in the same way we once did. Nova Scotia will continue working to expand our export markets, develop our own resources, and become more self-reliant.

The consensus behind the old model of development financing is dying. Developing countries aren't just waiting for disaster to overwhelm them, they are increasing their domestic financing where they can. We at UNAIDS Global are working with them to find ways to fund HIV prevention & treatment, and how to transform their programs to be more self-reliant and sustainable. We have 6 different models of CNC machines already designed and validated for production but we would need crores to scale up production and offer it to other manufacturers. Hence, we only build machines for our own production facility. Capital is a bottleneck for us. Currently we just have a tiny space within our own factory which is our R&D lab. We are a team of mere three people. Scaling hardware isn’t easy but it’s something that must be done for us to truly be self-reliant. Really appreciate your efforts Sridhar Vembu to build these hardware tools here. We must build more factories and hardware products in the country. Long way to go before I sleep.

In less than one week, some (but not all) social media platforms will be required by Australian law to prevent under 16s from accessing their services. How will they enforce the rules? We don’t really know. Will more and more platforms be captured by the law? We don’t really know. Will every Australian adult need to verify their identity in order to prove their age? We don’t really know. What do we know? Well we know that the Government are out there desperately trying to sell it. If America wants to win the AI race, we need to stop holding back our technology. Sell our chips to everyone, even our adversaries. When the world builds on U.S. hardware, we control the platform and stay years ahead. Restricting Nvidia and AMD chips doesn’t hurt China; it just pushes them to build their own stack. That’s a strategic mistake. My message to lawmakers: don’t ban chips. Out-innovate the world and make them dependent on us. That’s how you win the technology war.

They're the only other country that has the talent, the resources, and the technology expertise to basically beat us in AI. And I think whoever wins this AI race, that's going to have tremendous ramifications for both our economy and our national security. Clearly, we want the US to be the winner, just like we were with the internet, and every other technology revolution before that […] We know that to win this AI race, we have to be the most innovative. You can't regulate your way just to beating your competitor. You have to out-innovate them. And we know that in the United States, the innovation comes from the private sector, not the government. So we have to do everything we can to help our companies win, to help them be innovative, and that means getting a lot of red tape out of the way… We have to have the most AI infrastructure in the US. It has to be the easiest place to build it. All of the new data centers that are going in, they require tremendous power, so getting ahead of the curve on energy, making sure we stand up all of this new infrastructure we're going to need to basically produce these AI factories… We want the US technology stack to dominate globally.
