This 1988 vertical shooter on the Commodore Amiga kicked off their iconic run with that signature metallic look: smooth scrolling, the awesome tank-to-fighter jet transformations, massive bosses, and pure high-energy action that defined early 16-bit greatness. Absolute classic that still holds up today! Did you know the digitized face that pops up saying "Level One" was Bitmap Brother Eric Matthews! I lived in the US for a year back in 2003. Matrix Reloaded came out in May, and the hype around it was seriously insane, beyond imagination. In the movie, the main characters are using this super cool phone, and then in a close-up shot, I spotted the 'Samsung' logo right there on it. It felt absolutely mind-blowing and magical. I came back to Korea full of hope that this thing would actually go on sale worldwide. But later I found out it was only released in the US as a super limited edition of just 5,000 units (or so I heard back then). I was hugely disappointed… but eventually, I tracked one down and bought it from a collector. Even now, looking at it, the design is still so damn cool. I took it to a carrier to try using it for real, but they told me it’s a 2G phone and can’t be used anymore. That was another big letdown, I remember it clearly. Do you guys like the Matrix movies too? I’m a total huge fan!

One of the few games I managed to finish (in 2 player mode with my brother) without using unlimited lives: Silkworm It's a classic horizontally scrolling shoot 'em up developed and published by Tecmo for arcades in 1988. You control either a heli (player 1) or a jeep (player 2) as they blast through enemy territory. And "blast" in the very sense of the word - great sound effects, epic explosions, and non-stop action. The helicopter offers free movement in the air, while the jeep drives on the ground, can jump over obstacles like mines, and has a turret that rotates to shoot in a 180 degree angle. Originally an arcade game, it was later ported to home computers like the Amiga (as in the video) and consoles. To me still one of the best games ever for the Amiga, and still playing it these days when my brother comes for a visit.

I can tell you the UFC was interested in bringing Nate Diaz back, but at the end of the day, this was a no-brainer for Nate. I don't think it's going out on a limb to say this could be the most-watched MMA card of all time, because it's on the biggest platform in the world. You go out and win this fight, and all of a sudden you can go back to the UFC and say, 'Alright, the number just changed.' This level of competition is great for the fighters and the health of the sport.

The objective is simple: Create a city, develop residential and industrial areas, build infrastructure, and collect taxes for further city development. I remember playing this on my Amiga and the "save game" option was a bit wonky, so I would start a city and leave the computer on for a week, so I could keep growing my city. Probably not great for my good old Amiga, but certainly a lasting memory that still makes me smile. Needless to say, this game belongs in the Hall of Fame of games. The graphics were ok-ish, the sound was basicaly non-existend, but the idea, the flow of the game and the challenge to grow your city, while keeping crime rates low, pollution acceptable and taxes on a reasonable level - it could easily keep you engaged for hours, days, and weeks.

Released for Amiga and MS-DOS, it follows a young slave named Hector (or Ettore) on his journey through Roman society, from escaping the eruption of Mount Vesuvius to - ultimately - becoming Emperor of Rome. Yep, quite a career path! Gameplay is blending iso-style graphics, puzzle-solving, and some battles (not a core part of the game though). It features six chapters with quite a bit of historical detail. I have no idea if this was a huge hit or a colossal flop but it was certainly an ambitious game for its time.

It features six chapters with quite a bit of historical detail. I have no idea if this was a huge hit or a colossal flop but it was certainly an ambitious game for its time.

Silkworm is one of the very few games I actually managed to finish back in the day, and I did it the honest way, in two-player mode with my brother, no unlimited lives. Released by Tecmo in 1988, Silkworm puts you in control of either a helicopter (player 1) or a jeep (player 2) as you blast your way through enemy lines. And when I say “blast through,” I mean it - the game had fantastic sound effects, massive explosions, and pure non-stop action from start to finish. The helicopter gives you full freedom to fly anywhere on screen, while the jeep stays grounded, lets you jump over mines and obstacles, and has a pretty neat rotating turret that can fire in a full 180-degree arc, which needed a bit of skill to use. The co-op dynamic between the two vehicles is pure perfection. Originally an arcade hit, it was later ported to several home systems, including the Amiga (the version shown in the video), where it remains, in my opinion, one of the best games ever released for the platform. Even today, whenever my brother comes over, we still fire it up and play through it again. An absolute classic.
