Jay Miner, Father of the Amiga, on how it all began. “Well it was 1982… a friend from Atari came to me and said, ‘Hey Jay, let’s start a new company. I’m tired of this one.’ I said ‘Fine. I’ll do the chips — and I’ll be vice president… as long as I can do the chips MY way.’ My original vision? A low-cost entry into computers… through video games. Games were hot, investors just wanted a console. But I wanted something that could grow into a REAL computer.” Then Dave Morse (ex-Tonka Toys VP) showed up, we set up shop on Scott Blvd, started as “Hi-Toro”… and later became Amiga Corporation. Jay Miner was the Father of Amiga, which would become Commodore Amiga after the company was purchased by Commodore in 1984. What followed was Amiga 1000, 500, 2000, 600, 1200, 3000,4000 and a few other models.

It was perfect for co-op gaming with mates. Programmed by Andreas Tadic and Peter Tuleby, with graphics by Rico Holmes and iconic music by Allister Brimble. 1. Top-down run-and-gun sci-fi shooter heavily inspired by Aliens: You (and a friend in co-op) explore an infested space station, blasting xenomorph-like aliens (I originally thought they were aliens) while managing limited ammo and health. It mixes fast arcade action with tense resource management. 2. Team17’s breakthrough hit: This was only their second game, after Full Contact, and their first full-price release. It put the UK developer and publisher on the map, before they became famous for the Worms series. 3. He had at least two Amigas on the road and a souped-up one in his Vegas studio. He called his main Amiga “Lucille II” and used it to write songs, program drums, lay down horn sections, and arrange entire tracks with software like Bars & Pipes and Deluxe Music Construction Set — then he’d just play Lucille live on top. The Babylon Bee is fighting censorship. In their new documentary, to cover the issues they faced, along with how Elon is being constantly attacked for his stance on free speech. Elon Musk is fighting this battle in the European Union and Brazil. Governments are trying to force X to remove content that they disapprove of, which counters govt approved narratives. When I came on board at Hanna Barbera, the priority was THE REAL ADVENTURES JONNY QUEST (1996). The series is credited as one of the first animated television series to use motion capture technology for the CGI sequences in "QuestWorld," the virtual reality environment featured in the show. It was a novel approach at the time for an animated series. Because it was so ambitious, we had two separate teams working to keep up with the schedule. As crude as this might look, it was groundbreaking given the fact that it was done on a TV schedule and budget.

Any fans of this masterpiece? One of the few games I managed to finish (in 2 player mode with my brother) without using unlimited lives: Silkworm It's a classic horizontally scrolling shoot 'em up developed and published by Tecmo for arcades in 1988. You control either a heli (player 1) or a jeep (player 2) as they blast through enemy territory. And "blast" in the very sense of the word - great sound effects, epic explosions, and non-stop action. The helicopter offers free movement in the air, while the jeep drives on the ground, can jump over obstacles like mines, and has a turret that rotates to shoot in a 180 degree angle. Originally an arcade game, it was later ported to home computers like the Amiga (as in the video) and consoles. To me still one of the best games ever for the Amiga, and still playing it these days when my brother comes for a visit.

The Adventures of Robin Hood was released in September 1991 by Millennium Interactive for the Commodore Amiga, developed initially by Steve Grand with Amiga porting by Alan McCarthy. Funny enough this game was originally conceived as a Wild West game, it then changed to Robin Hood! Robin Hood was built on the custom "Gulliver" engine, which was later reused in Rome: Pathway to Power. The atmospheric music was composed by Richard Joseph. Do you remember Sherwood Forest, was alive in this game? The forest was filled with over 40 NPCs (Non-Player Character) like Maid Marian, Little John, Friar Tuck, those merry men and others. All were driven by advanced Ai at the time with over 600 behavioral rules, living independent lives and more. True pioneer of emergent gameplay on the Amiga. This game is legendary! I lost count of the hours I spent playing it with friends, and every moment was worth it! Andy Davidson was just 19 when he created Worms on his Commodore Amiga using Blitz BASIC. He developed the original Worms prototype, 'Total Wormage,' right in his bedroom. He entered it into Amiga Format magazine's Blitz BASIC contest which was flooded with entries but Total Wormage was disqualified for lacking source code. Undeterred, Andy pitched to publishers... and heard nothing back. Luckily for us long time Worms fans, Andy didn't give up, he closed his computer shop for a day and traveled to London for the European Computer Trade Show (ECTS) Spring 1994 to find a publishing company. His Total Wormage Amiga game was about 80% complete on a floppy disk, he showed Martyn Brown and Debbie Bestwick at the Team17 booth and they couldn't stop playing it -they signed him on the spot. And the rest is history... with a name change, exploding sheep and a few other weapons it has become a truly iconic game franchise. For me Worms is a defining Amiga game, but I noticed in polls I run here on X, it never rates well with voters. Are there any other Worms fans out there? POLL BELOW⬇️
