All the biggest dudes: “Single Arm Lat Pull-Downs using a Cable Tower absolutely BLEW my Lats up…well worth the small setup hassle!” All the smallest dudes: “Just do Barbell Rows and Chin Ups, bro…this setup is way too much” Lesson in there!

These are my favorite excerises for back day. The amount of stretch is insane. I ladder them up to a five count pause between pulls. I do them standing, but seated provides a better pull on the lower part of the lat.

you will consistently see the biggest people doing three things for back >single arm cable pulldown or row with a support >assisted pull-ups (machine or band) >using straps/grips

I’ve tried multiple variations Dean. Nothing gets the stretch like the single arm cable pull. I actually feel a little sore after I do them.

Maybe I’m too anal about it, but I hate doing single arm/leg exercises. I feel like I get significantly more systemic fatigue for the same muscle stimulus. Might be placebo, not sure

Dean Turner's profile picture
Dean Turner8 months ago

I only sprinkle some in Mostly prefer bilateral

Allen's profile picture
Allen8 months ago

Same here. I do feel a better mind muscle connection with single arm though. Specifically on curls,

Thoughts on single arm using this?

Dean Turner's profile picture

It’s okay for a Lat / neutral grip row Not my favorite though

I do a variation kneeling on one knee. Excited to give this a go though.

Much better with a bench for sure

I mean this is just a gayer, longer form of a pull-up. Do some weighted pull ups and you’ll get bigger quicker.

Paul Wilson's profile picture

All the big dudes have smashed barbell rows until their lats were massive. They didn’t grow them from cable pulls. Fuck off.

FogTownFlyer's profile picture

Ummm yes and definitely no. Do the huge guys get huge from years of these or the boring classics ? are they experienced lifters who know how to rock a lat with any implement so it feels good to them regardless?

Jeff's profile picture

I’m sure the steroids helped blow your lats up more then the exercise lol.

2 questions 1) Are these fine done on knees? I get there’s less stability but less relative setup 2) how about using the lat pulldown but just using that same handle so it’s more vertical?

Dean Turner's profile picture
Dean Turner8 months ago

It’s considerably worse kneeling…the stability is a very big deal And it’s hard to pull off in an ideal manner because of how far under the cable you’ll be on that setup

Partizan's profile picture

That dude is too big to do a chin up

Is a single arm pull-down on a lat pulldown cable, heavily reclined a decent alternative if this setup isn’t available?

Dean Turner's profile picture
Dean Turner8 months ago

Kind of but a lot of times you still get a pretty vertical upper arm

Is it high to low? Best option or medium or where is best set up

Dean Turner's profile picture
Dean Turner8 months ago

A myriad of setups CAN work I generally prefer one that minimizes upper arm elevation to some extent though

Dutch's profile picture

This vs low pully if you had to pick one...?

joau's profile picture

can someone giv3 me combination of this ? like, other lat exercises to use with this one (sry bad english xd)

TechMuscle's profile picture
TechMuscle8 months ago

Are the kneeling version of these also a decent option? I’ve been doing them for a while but was curious how they compare. My gym is small and the few benches we have are often taken lol

Dean Turner's profile picture
Dean Turner8 months ago

The bench supported version blows them out of the water IMO, kneeling isn’t even worth doing It becomes a stability issue very fast as you progress

TechMuscle's profile picture
TechMuscle8 months ago

Results after the extra 3/10 setup effort for the bench supported version. Definitely felt way better. Now I just need to set up for better pump pics lol

Notice his face...the intensity and effort is still showing even though its a machine based isolation
