For weeks now, The Sameer Project has been working on building a new desalination plant to provide a new source of clean water for Palestinians in Gaza. This will help us save money and have a new source of fresh water. This wouldn’t have been possible with this incredible community, without YOU! With multiple desalination plants bombed and huge water scarcity in the Gaza Strip, you have allowed The Sameer Project to now create a new source of fresh water. The desalination plant is READY!!! Last week, The Sameer Project team did some testing to check the salinity and quality of water, during the pause. But now that it’s ready, we don’t want a day to pass by without producing water. Give operational cost here: Our key expenses for the desalination plant is for the staff and fuel to keep it running. They said it couldn’t be done… We had people doubt us… How can you build a desalination plant in the middle of a genocide - it’s too hard. It’s impossible to source all the parts… Weeeellllllll….. Thanks to you, thanks to the incredible efforts of our team, thanks to the will to be different and make a real difference…WE DID IT!!! The Sameer Project’s water desalination plant in the North is complete. During our pause in distributions and operations we went through testing of the plant and the quality of water produced. And we are ready!! Ready to produce new and more volume of water in the North. We will distribute this water ourselves AND give it out for free to organization who have capacity to deliver it to areas in need. Now we need continues funding to keep it operation: that includes fuel for the generator, maintenance, staffing of the plant - with your help this plant will basically pay for itself after a few months of operating and saved costs. Help here: Our water distributions cover areas near the yellow line with hundreds of families. Since Ramadan, donations to The Sameer Project dropped drastically putting us in a position to reconsider providing less aid. As you can see, water is a huge issue in Gaza and that is why The Sameer Project prioritizes the water initiative above everything else we do. Now when, out of complete necessity due to the lack of funding, The Sameer Project is forced to stop our water distributions, it will become unimaginable for the families who depend on us. The water desalinization plant where our team pumps half the water we deliver from was bombed tonight by the occupation forces. Read that again. Israel bombed one of the only remaining sources of water in the entire North. The plant in Al Tuffah is where most water that is supplied to eastern and central Gaza City comes from. It’s gone. Yesterday we delivered 86,000 liters of water. While we await morning to come for a full picture of the situation we know some things for certain: there will not be enough water for everyone, the price of water per liter will increase from the inability to produce it, and the number of diseases from drinking contaminated water will immediately rise. The camps we went back to after two weeks of absence were furious as they struggled massively without water. 215,000 liters is low. We can do more. The Sameer Project has the ability to scale up to half a million liters overnight. All we need is funding. At the current trajectory, it looks like The Sameer Project will have to reduce water in July and we want to do everything we can to avoid that. Please help now: The Sameer Project is facing a drop in donations and we are looking to diversify the way we raise funds. We are launching our website and will sell merch on it, and we are also looking for ethical businesses to provide us with a percentage from their monthly profit. Material support for liberation needs to be sustainable and not momentary. If you have any ideas on how we can raise funds beyond social media, we would love to hear it. This community is what allowed us to operate for two years and we know you’ll stand by us so that we can keep going and providing aid. Posting these videos fill us with rage and frustration. You would think that the bare minimum that Palestinians would get after three years in genocide is food and water but even that is not secured. The Sameer Project never planned to pause. Never wanted to pause. But sadly here we are. Please help now: We reduced our water distributions from 430,000 liters down to 185,000 liters. This is in August, the hottest month of the year. All we need is $15 for every 1,000 liters and we can do a MILLION liters daily. We can scale up. We have the team. We have the processes. We are part of the WASH cluster. We just need the funds.
