The same man was responsible for the Teynampet–Saidapet flyover as well. This was once a green belt. Today, it looks like a bloody well-lit stadium, not because... of development, but because the age-old trees on both sides have been chopped down. Nearly 200–300 of Chennai’s old trees—gone. 🌳 This area was once a habitat for spotted deer. Today, it looks like a war-ravaged landscape. In fact, the entire stretch now resembles E. V. Velu’s bald head, not a tree in sight! 🤦🤣 All they had to do was build an elevated highway and save the trees. Instead, they chose the most destructive and idiotic option. And what about the birds? How many nesting sites have been destroyed along with those trees? As Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam rightly said: “I did everything, but the birds never came back. When I started planting trees, they all came back.” One more reason why DMK should never, ever come back to power.show more

Are you nuts ? We have been suffering for past decades in the Adyar madyakailash area and now after the bridge work we are saved more time and Saidapet stretch is more tiresome stretch during peak hour traffic after the work gets over people will benefit a lot biased view

People who spend 40 mins to cross less than a KM will know the pain and they will understand the expansion. Yes trees are cut it can grown. City is growing leaps and bounds.

Those who travel in that road know the importance of the expansion.. still more expansion needed in the gandhi Mandapam side and then a flyover from madhya kailash to kotturpuram road..

It was once a pleasant road to travel.Over the last two decades, hundreds of trees have been cut for road widening in installments. Unplanned development of infrastructure & not much importance is given to greenery.

Easy to romanticize “trees and birds” when you drove through that stretch once. I’ve commuted through there daily for 4 years , that curve alone used to eat up 30 minutes in traffic. Yesterday I finally crossed it without the usual gridlock and just thought, “thank god, I get home early for once.” And the irony? Your car pollutes more than the trees ever offset. No guilt about that, but suddenly you’re worried about greenery you drove past for five minutes. That’s peak hypocrisy.

How they can build elevated highway in this busy narrow stretch? Road expansion is required but at the same time they should have planted double the time trees and saved the environment. They will not do that. Thats the problem.
