Another mindless development project by the DMK under E. V. Velu, the then State Highways Minister. Road expansion from Adyar to Rajbhavan! The same man was responsible for the Teynampet–Saidapet flyover as well. This was once a green belt. Today, it looks like a bloody well-lit stadium, not because... of development, but because the age-old trees on both sides have been chopped down. Nearly 200–300 of Chennai’s old trees—gone. 🌳 This area was once a habitat for spotted deer. Today, it looks like a war-ravaged landscape. In fact, the entire stretch now resembles E. V. Velu’s bald head, not a tree in sight! 🤦🤣 All they had to do was build an elevated highway and save the trees. Instead, they chose the most destructive and idiotic option. And what about the birds? How many nesting sites have been destroyed along with those trees? As Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam rightly said: “I did everything, but the birds never came back. This family went out of town for vacation. When they got back they noticed the neighbor had cut down some branches from their tree that were hanging over to their side. No discussion, no contact, they felt like they waited until they were gone to trim the tree. Many people said that if it is on their side hanging over they have every right to cut those branches. A lot of people brought up “Tree Law” and suggested she had a case. 🤔 Looks like there are more branches that hang over as well. We have many trees in my neighborhood and many of us share trees that give us shade and hang over each other’s property. Apparently there is a whole section dedicated to laws that govern trees between neighbors. 🤯 Have you ever heard of “Tree Law”? What would you do if you were the neighbor? If you were the owner and had come back and noticed your tree limbs cut?

Distressed Mudgee WIRES volunteers have provided pictures of rescued orphaned native birds struggling to survive after the destruction caused by EnergyCo for transmition lines. Independent MP Andrew Gee asks "How many more were lost, we'll never know." "There was no need to bulldoze these old trees. It all could have been avoided if EnergyCo had put in a new road on land it owns/ controls just over the fence from where the trees once were. The NSW Premier needs to step in and stop this shocking vandalism".

This man who is a landscaper said you should never build a tree coffin around a tree. He said it ends up making the tree die by restricting the roots and having too much mulch. I never knew they were called "tree coffins". I looked it up and it does say they can be very detrimental to your tree if not done correctly. The pavers can restrict root growth and the mulch shouldn't be too thick or torching the base of the tree. I have seen some pretty nice "tree coffins". I never knew they were bad for your trees. Do you have these around your trees? Did you build one a certain way that allows your tree to flourish? What about the people who cemented their pavers together and in the ground?

Pune Metro has been the cause for the maximum disruption of traffic and causing traffic chaos across Pune for the past decade. Besides this is a government run by thugs and thieves along with corporate executives who have pouring concrete over the entire city as their only objective. Among other things. We are trying to knock some sense into the @punemetro3 , roads and projects department to be more environmentally conscious. It’s mostly a losing battle. Unfortunately large corporate interests such as Tata Group Larsen & Toubro KPMG India are all complicit in the denuding of the cities green cover. It’s astonishing that they as of yet don’t have the capacities in-house to simply help move ancient trees 🌳 in situ at the same location or another as the case may be - so that Pune doesn’t have to sacrifice its ancient trees. Their engineering under the mandate of the chump in chief Devendra Fadnavis and his sidekick Ajit Pawar is about laying to waste a living breathing city. Never about conservation. When they’re not defending criminals like Karads or Mundes this is what they do…. Turn Mumbai and Pune into a dust bowl desert. Some notes emergent out of yesterday’s meetings with the metro officials. 1. The metro work has been the cause of the maximum tree felling in the area through Mann Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar. It also is the cause of the maximum traffic jams across the city in the past decade. 2. ⁠There isn’t a single example of the Pune IT City Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. having replanted or transplanted a single tree 🌳 fully in all its glory along this route. Not one success story. 3. ⁠What has happened instead is that trees in their hundreds and at times without permission have been butchered by the Metro authorities under the offices of Bhanudas Mane. Sakalnagar has lost 40 trees. Ganeshkhind Road over a few hundred trees. Karve road countless old growth trees. Wherever the metro goes, it creates traffic jams and destroys the road side green cover. 4. ⁠These criminals led by the offices of the Municipal Commisioner and supported by the house of Tata’s @RNTata2000 are responsible for the destruction of the green cover of Ganeshkhind Road. Aundh Baner Balewadi Road until Hinjewadi. 5. ⁠Some sad transplantation techniques have been applied along with making rudimentary compensatory plantation attempts to come up with numbers to justify further tree felling along Ganeshkhind Road. The biomass lost hasn’t been replaced by the biomass newly planted (never was meant to be). What was meant to be was to screw Pune’s population out of its green cover and its ability to fight pollution and traffic caused by the increasing heat and dust from the metro work force which will justify anything in its means to keep destroying the city and its natural capital. 6. ⁠All the officials involved have been incriminated on several counts in the courts of law, especially at NGT and Supreme Court and High Court. A current contempt proceeding also remains open towards these matters. Yet, nothing is taken seriously by any of them. Tree felling permissions continue to be applied for, they continue to be given despite strong objections raised by all citizens groups and movements. It’s a KPMG & BJP modus operandi to destroy our environment. Today Ganeshkhind Road is a former shadow of itself. The Metro work looms over everything here. 7. ⁠Despite the road department, projects department and the Metro Transit functions having made commitments to transplant trees In situ with minimum damage at the same locations preferably. “SAVE OUR REDS!🐿️ SAVE OUR TREES!🌳” Well over 600 folk undertook a protest march in Cockermouth today regarding a “luxury development” to fell trees where there was preservation orders and our precious, iconic, native #redsquirrel The town’s population isn’t even 8k! Say’s summat eh! I do hope the developer and Cumberland Council have a good long hard look at themselves ignoring local voices. Red squirrels are legally protected. They are in the trees foraging about the site and wider area. Using the nature trees for cover, shelter and foraging for food! Alas, it seems money matters more to some and nature less so nowadays despite current laws and legislation 🙄😢

Today at the Eko Amore Gardens in Lekki, we marked the 2026 Tree Planting Day with a powerful demonstration of our collective commitment to a greener and more climate resilient Lagos. I had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu , ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, along with the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, our Tree Champions, and community leaders. The theme for this year, “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” speaks directly to the fact that environmental stewardship is a duty we all share. Tree planting is not a ceremonial event, it is a strategic environmental intervention and one of the simplest, most effective nature based solutions to combat extreme weather, flooding, biodiversity loss, and rising temperatures. The Governor charged all Lagosians to not only plant trees but to nurture them to maturity, and he set a clear target of 20,000 trees for this year. As of June 30, we had already planted 13,401 trees representing 67 percent of that target, and a new planting season has now commenced across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, running throughout the rainy season until October. I am pleased to announce that every LGA and LCDA Chairman has been designated as a Tree Custodian, responsible for nurturing and monitoring the trees planted in their jurisdictions for a minimum of 12 months to ensure survival. The Governor also unveiled the 20 Lagos Tree Champions, outstanding individuals and organisations whose contributions are advancing the greening of our State. I urge every resident to obtain free tree seedlings from LASPARK’s Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency - LASPARK nurseries, plant in your homes, schools, offices and communities, and nurture them. We are not just planting trees, we are planting hope, health, and a lasting legacy for generations to come. This is how we build a #CleanerLagos and a truly #GreaterLagos.

There’s been times when I’m walking or hiking in the woods and I hear knocking coming a building, it gives me an eerie vibe like a trapped in the woods kind of feeling. I know I post about this stuff a bit but it truly fascinates me. Like how this man is hearing knocking on the ground in the woods like something underneath him is knocking but it’s solid ground right? The only logical explanation I can think of is it’s reverb from construction or possibly pipes on the ground being worked on. I was at the state park getting a jog in, the surrounding area was flat, I could see far on either side of me. The fields were clear of trees like a new developmental lot. I didn’t have my headphones on, I decided just to go for a jog without them. During the jog it was quiet, except for the sounds of the wildlife, I could tell they were there, it didn’t bother me. However as I progressed I started hearing a screeching noise, it didn’t sound like any animal to me, almost like old metal on metal brakes of a car ready to fail is how I would describe it. I wasn’t worried because as I said before, the area I was at was clear, it wasn’t as if anybody could be hiding along my path, it was just empty, but what made it weird is I couldn’t pinpoint where the noise was and it sounded close yet I couldn’t see anything that could be the source. Just a dirt path and grass. There were trees along the horizon but they were far, too far for that noise to be so close. For the rest of the job I kept my eyes open but to this day I still couldn’t explain what that noise was.

This is truly the craziest yard facelift I've EVER seen! Kudos to you Spencer! Not only was there a pool under there but entire buildings! No telling what kind of critters were in those trees and underbrush! I know the neighborhood was loving you! Kudos to Spencer for mobilizing the neighbors and what a magnificent and herculean job he (and the neighbors) did for this property. Amazing! I always wonder how many blades get ripped to shreds from some of those little trees? I have always wondered why neighbours never join in to help with the mowing of an abandoned house but this video wowed me. I am impressed by the neighbourhood support. The Sycamore Gap Tree in the Uk was illegally cut down in 2023 by two men in an act of vandalism. The tree was estimated to be 120-150 years old and had become an iconic spot to visit. Most people referred to it as the Robin Hood tree as it was in the movie that Kevin Costner was in. The tree was also in Bryan Adams music video "Everything I do, I do it for you," and a few other shows. The needles will be brown everywhere, but they're not burned up. White ash, where's the black, where's the carbon? So you're thinking intense heat, well why are all the trees still there? A palm tree's easy to light on fire. They burn up in a second. They're like grass, they're thin. They'll burn in seconds. Yet I look at them, they're kind of super wilted, they turn black. ‌ There's a black color to all these dead trees. If it doesn't ignite, these leaves just kind of wilt and turn dark colors. Another anomaly. They should all have been gone. With this kind of heat, everything should have been gone. Should have been stumps of trees. That didn't happen. And it should be black, not white. That's right. Every house I've seen burn up, all of them have been burned to the ground, white ash. I have not seen much of any black anywhere. Everything else is completely gone. ‌ Yeah, the toilet, the fridge, the stove, which I've seen houses in. And the stove is there. It doesn't go to ash. That's right. This is the giant banyan tree I've heard about. Here you have a fire all the way around it. Even the boats were on fire. After the fire, I see leaves everywhere and all the aerial roots coming down. They look kind of sagging and black, not necessarily burned up. And here's a wood pole to your left. ‌ Whether it's a splint, I think there's lights on it. It was so hot I forgot to burn the wood. Dead trees I've noticed that are dead before the fires, they're not burning. There's no moisture in them. Yes, the whole hood, it got so hot, the metal hood melted out. That's pushing 2,750 degrees. Two fire captains I know of, they say they've never seen vehicles in their whole career like this. Windows are never melted, they might break. ‌ They don't even sag, they break shatter or fall out but they don't melt. It's 2500 degrees and up they start to melt at 25. So what could do that? You don't have enough fuel in this Jeep. I don't mean gasoline. I mean the fuels, the plastics, the seats, the cushions. All that isn't enough to get this kind of burn. I got to be the top guy in the number three promotion. And for a long time, I felt like my career was a failure because of that. LET ME TELL YOU A STORY!!! 🌳🤗🌳❤️🌳 In the 1970s, women of Reni village, Uttarakhand, hugged trees to save them from being chopped It came to be known as the Chipko Movement The women were protesting against the government's allocation of forest land to contractors for logging and commercial purposes because it led to environmental degradation The movement was so powerful that the then prime minister Indira Gandhi was forced to make changes to the existing law The Forest conservation act of 1980 was born! Did the forest belong to the people? Did the trees belong to those villagers? But why did the women fight? Governments as such don’t OWN the land, the air, the water or you or me! Governments are ONLY custodians of the resources. They aren’t super powers. They cannot and should not make unilateral decisions. People are allowed to and should protest when the environment is in danger. Since this is still a democracy! Be it Aarey, Hasedo, Aravalli, Narmada Bachao, Save Lakshadweep or even Save HCU people are protesting against government NOT because it is their land or their trees or their water. But because it is their right to protect the environment. Moral of the story: GOVERNMENTS DON’T OWN US!
