Citizens alleged they were lured to a marriage hall by BJP workers on the promise of cash and then were detained in the hall for 4-5 hours. Local body elections are on in several parts of Maharashtra today and as usual BJP is indulging in #VoteChori on a big scale. First BJP tried to bribe the voters and then it detained them. A widely circulated video on social media clearly shows Imamur Rashid Iman, a central member of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), receiving 700,000 taka in cash from a woman. In the video, Iman is heard saying, “We had agreed on 1 million taka with my brother, but you’ve given 700,000.” The victim is a small-scale entrepreneur. NCP leaders allegedly took nearly 4.8 million taka from her over time, promising her work in various government and private projects. However, no work or projects were ever delivered to her. Is this what they call a “new kind of politics”? Or is it just an upgraded version of old-school extortion-based politics? This incident makes it clear: the NCP is simply walking the same deceitful path under a new political disguise.
