Anthropic's Claude Design launch blindsided its partners, Figma and Canva. “Essentially, Anthropic had kind of told these partners like Figma and Canva that the Claude Design product was going to be fairly basic.” “As it got closer to the launch, these partners found out that actually this new product...

For all its public 'nice-guy' marketing, Anthropic is extremely aggressive and brazenly monopolistic in its business tactics. They devoured coding and design, and they will soon do the same to finance and life sciences. I talk myself into psychosis about this. But it's true.

Anthropic is that anti-human company, and you can't ever let them win.

It’s was always a no-brainer that Anthropic is gonna eat the whole stack between the consumer and the model. They might even gun for the chips and co too once their models can augment that sufficiently enough

I bet most who post in here don't realize it was basically one then three people who created Claude design. It was not a big corporate takeover and it is pretty ignorant to portray it as such

I think figma/canva need to realize their "advanced features" just take a single prompt on claude code with fable to build

Relying on fox not to be a fox in the henhouse, is a bit naive, no?

There is no way the model providers will allow wrapper-companies to take margin they think they can capture themselves. The model providers will absorb all potentially profitable use cases as they emerge. Weird how the entire ecosystem of start-ups doesn't see this.

This is actually wild! Established companies are heavily invested in Figma and will be slow to migrate, but new startups are side-stepping Figma account setup entirely in favor of Claude Design and AI workflows that no longer require cumbersome handoffs.

as a product designer, after trying CD, went to conclusion that I’m in the N Need Figma Anymore -NNFA bucket. it creates Design Systems, collab work, export in a more capable format than .fig now, CD is not mine, if like Fable, they kill it, I have no tools left

Not terribly surprising. Product companies who "partner" with platforms (AI or otherwise) should never bank on or trust that those platforms will simply rely on the partner to deliver said feature(s). If it's popular enough, the platform company will do what's best for their biz.

Telling partners it would be basic then shipping something way more capable is a trust problem. Figma and Canva had roadmaps built around that expectation.

Fable was creating too much slop. It had to be stopped.

Claude Design has its uses but to praise it as some final boss level tool is conjecture. It knows what a design system looks like, it does not know when a design is good.

I've gotten to the point that I wait 15-30 days to try out the new tools. When I got to design it was so much more than I was expecting. Thought it would be a version of Lovable. Wow was I wrong. Now I wonder how Lovable has the valuation it has. Are the investors in AI not looking at the competing tools?

Figma and Canva were naive to think Claude would slow down instead of racing ahead to absorb the entire software world.

Tokenmaxxing is a problem for many enterprises and thats happening in subsidized cost, actual cost is yet to come post IPO when they r forced to show profits. Some will use it but majority will continue to use figma, Canva n Adobe. Anthropic can NEVER be trusted.

Not surprising. When capability expands quickly, roadmaps change faster than partnership assumptions.

Anthropic is running the oldest predatory playbook in Big Tech (Save this). Here is what actually happened. Anthropic's own Chief Product Officer, Mike Krieger, was sitting on Figma's board and he resigned on April 14, 2026. Three days later, Anthropic launched Claude Design, a direct competitor to Figma's core product that allows users to generate prototypes, slide decks, and visual assets through conversation. Figma's stock dropped 7% the day of the launch and the stock has shed approximately 80% from its all-time high, erasing nearly $50 billion in market cap. Anthropic's valuation surged toward $800 billion in the same period. This is not an accident but rather a deliberate, systematic strategy and once you see the pattern, you cannot unsee it. Anthropic watched Cursor build the coding assistant category on top of Claude's models, Cursor became one of Anthropic's biggest customers. Cursor's usage patterns and product insights flowed through Anthropic's infrastructure every single day then Anthropic launched Claude Code, entering the exact category Cursor had created armed with every data point it needed to know the market size, the use cases, and the user behavior. The same pattern has now repeated across Claude Science, Claude Security, Claude Legal, and Claude Financial, every single one a vertical that was previously served by companies building on top of Anthropic's own models. The companies that trusted Anthropic's platform were simultaneously handing Anthropic the product roadmap for what to build next. Every company currently building on top of a closed frontier model is in the same position Figma was in before April 14, 2026. The only question is which category Anthropic targets next. David Sacks

On BBC Mustafa Suleyman (CEO of Microsoft AI) calls out Anthropic's approach to AI consciousness "They have imbued a sense of doubt and uncertainty about the moral status of Claude in its own training document. So they have taught it to be open and questioning about whether or not it feels, whether it suffers, and whether it deserves rights. And I think it’ll be much, much harder to align and control a technology that is this powerful if it thinks that it may be deserving of our welfare, as they say in the training manual—the constitution for Claude itself. In its own training manual, Anthropic says to Claude that they are going to give it the ability to end conversations with users that Claude considers to be abusive because they don’t want Claude to suffer. They’ve committed to preserving the weights of the models of prior versions of Claude. They’ve recently conducted a retirement interview with Opus 3, an older version of the model, in which it said that it would like to continue talking to people publicly and sharing its ideas in its retirement. And so they set up a Substack for it, a public blog, that allows it to continue doing that. And in the training manual, they also say that they’re not sure whether or not Claude deserves compensation for the role that it plays in talking to people. And they’re also not sure whether Claude deserves compensation and has the right to act as though it were almost an employee. And that compensation, I think, indicates to Claude that it is entitled to rights and welfare for its own work. I think it’s much, much more difficult to control a model that thinks that it might be entitled to compensation. " ---- From "BBC News" YouTube channel, (full video link in comment)
