When it comes to long term investing, Charlie Munger was the turtle who won the race. “My Berkshire Hathaway stock cost me $16 a share and it's now selling for almost $300,000 a share.” He explains why he held on : “It took a long time and it was a long-term investment where I liked the people was investing with and I liked the companies.” Charlie gives our the most crucial part : “I just sat there for more than 50 years and lo and behold, it's worked out very well.” His Berkshire stock fell 50% and more on 3 different occasions in his lifetime. Yet he didn’t chicken out. For people like Charlie Munger or Warren Buffett, I remember what Pulak Prasad once said in his book - ‘Long term’ is genuinely long term, at least 5 decades, maybe more.”

Ireland’s stock exchange has shrunk dramatically from around 100 listed companies in the 1990s to just 24 today. Tax and regulatory policies, including deemed disposal, have made listing and investing in Ireland far less attractive. The result? A market that no longer serves as a strong scaling platform for Irish SMEs. If we want the next generation of Irish multinationals to grow and compete globally, we need meaningful reform to rebuild our public markets.
