Asked Wolves GM Matt Lloyd about the confidence Isaiah Evans plays with and what value they see in that. "Luckily, we met with him at the combine. Tim got a chance to sit with him. And we were really that aspect of his personality, confidence. To go from where... show more

A brief scouting report on Isaiah Evans from Wolves GM Matt Lloyd "We actually really liked him in the 1st round last night. And we were considering taking him in the 1st round before we traded back. He provides a little bit of a movement shooting element, something that we think we can develop. He's had two good seasons at Duke... and we're excited about the opportunity to develop him into a little bit more."

With the Wolves drafting Duke shooter Isaiah Evans, I asked Matt Lloyd how the Wolves' front office goes about projecting the quality of a shooting prospect. "It's so developed over time... It's watching him play for two years, watching him play in high school, in the high school All American games. We've seen him shoot a lot of 3-point shots. We probably watched every single one of them from this season at Duke. We think it's going to translate positively. And then we have the luxury of having an analytics model that projects shooting, and that projection was very positive."

Arteta on Rob Edwards and Wolves: “Well, because most of the game that's what they're doing against opponents, and he came in a really difficult moment for the club and I know how he feels about the club and the way he works. “It's going to be very tough. You'll be doing the things that we do really well. We have a big chance to win the game and we need to play as well with that purpose and confidence.”

🗣️ Mikel Arteta on Christos Tzolis: "I'm very pleased with him. First of all, the way he has adapted to the club, to the team. The connection he's already generated with the boys. "I think you're going to love the player. He's a very direct player. He's got the ball between the eyes. I think really good at linking up. He has a lot of similarities with Leo in a lot of the things that he can do and the spaces he can occupy. "And then the work ethic that he has. He's a boy that comes with so much hunger as well and wants to prove it. It's a dream for him and we are here to help him."

T.J. Otzelberger isn't shying away from expectations. After Friday's loss at Arizona, he called his team a Final Four contender. That was about instilling confidence in his group that if they play at their caliber, the sky is the limit. "...I wanted our guys to understand that the level that we played at in Kansas City and how we competed, that continuing to do that one day at a time creates a lot of possibilities down the road if you're able to keep your focus where it needs to be. So I wanted them to come away with that with a tremendous sense of confidence..."

Quentin Tarantino recounts a dinner with Robert De Niro during the making of Jackie Brown, where he asked him whether he understood when he landed the role of Vito in The Godfather Part II, that it would change his life. De Niro’s answer revealed a great deal about his mindset at the time. “I was working with Robert De Niro on Jackie brown, and we went out to dinner once. - When he got Vito in the Godfather Part II, that was going to be a big thing for him. He won the Oscar for it - it set him up to be a movie star. So I asked him - and I've asked this to quite a few actors when it comes to when they got the role that would end up changing their career - did he realize that the moment when he got the role, that it would have this sort of effect? And he goes oh, “I tried not to let it do that. I tried not to think about that” I go, "really? and why did you try not to think about that?" “Well because I’ve seen it happen and then go the other way” And then he used an example. “There was this guy, he was a young actor, and he was part of our crowd in New York. He'd been doing okay, but we were all in the same boat. Then all of a sudden he got a lead role. He's one of the two leads in a brand new movie by a director who had just done a smash hit.” And he's talking about Larry Pierce (the director) and uh... Goodbye Columbus. ”And he started dining out on it. And all of a sudden I go to the places that we used to go to, and now he's there and everyone's kind of revolving around him. He's kind of holding court. He's not doing anything bad; he's just arisen in the way that none of us have - and we're all treating him different. Then the movie comes out; nobody likes it - The movie comes out, and it goes away, and he's exactly in the same place he was. And I just wanted to make sure that that would never happen to me because I watched it happen to him.” Quote from Video Archives Podcast, sourced from James Whale Bake Sale YouTube channel. Yamal’s football is like a mix of prime Messi and prime Ronaldo. And I’m not talking about Messi and Ronaldo when they were Yamal’s age, I mean their actual prime. The way he dribbles and moves with the ball has that Messi side, but the way he drives at defenders, uses his pace and plays with that confidence reminds me of Ronaldo too. I even went back to watch Messi at 19 and honestly, I don’t think he was playing better than Yamal is playing now. Messi obviously became Messi, but we’re talking about what they were actually doing at that age. If you think they would rival him at his age quote a video to prove your point

Laurent Mekies on talk of a possible Verstappen retirement "I have full confidence that, as a sport, we have the tools to tweak the regulations so that they come back closer to flat-out qualifying, while keeping all the positive aspects we’ve seen from the racing in the first couple of races. And I think if we do that, I have every confidence that Max will keep seeing what we all see: that you still have the best 22 drivers in the world there, you’ll have the fastest cars on the planet, and it’s the most competitive environment. And he’s ultimately a competitor. "We are not having the retirement talk with Max right now. We are having the hardcore analysis of how to go faster with our car. And he’s passionate about the sport, and he wants to contribute to the sport and make sure it lands in the right place. Hence, he’s vocal about the tweaks he thinks we need to do, again, as a driver, to make sure that he can be flat-out in qualifying and to make sure he can have good racing. And we are not having a retirement discussion. "You need to come to Milton Keynes to see, as we said, the fire behind every door. And you will soon realize why I’m smiling right now, because we don’t think about our driver market in 2027. We think about getting a fast car. And if we get a fast car, there is no discussion about what Max is doing next year."

When you hear the advice "hire the best," this is what that looks like: "We had a candidate who came and interviewed. He was a junior at MIT and very very young. We gave him our interview and he did way better than almost any of the full-time candidates that we had ever talked to. So we said to him, what do you think about taking some time off of school and working with us and building out Devin? And he thought about it for a while, and he came back, and he said I'm down, I want to do it, but my parents really want me to graduate from school, and I'm just not sure there's a way to make it work. So we talked with him more to fully understand the situation, and then we flew to North Carolina, went straight from the airport to his parents' house, had dinner with him and his parents, and tried to understand, all right, what would it take to make this work? They said it sounds like a great opportunity, but we really want our son to be able to graduate. So we figured out a setup where he could work for us essentially full time, but then come in for his required classes, and do what he needed to do to get the diploma. More than that, we got to a point where everyone was happy Then we went straight back to the airport and flew home." – Scott Wu, CEO and co-founder of @cognition, makers of Devin

John McDonnell, "When Keir Starmer was asked about Morgan McSweeney he got up and defended him, most Labour MPs were shocked at that" "It calls to question Keir's judgment" "And I think Keir needs to think himself whether he's the right person to continue on now" "Many feel he should move on" "It's better for us as a party and a country if he does that" "Sometimes you just have to clear out the stables, and I think that's what Labour has to do" "We need a fresh approach to restore confidence in Labour" "We could be losing a government here as a result of this issue"

🗣️ Mikel Arteta on Dowman’s defensive development “Defensively, his application, his capacity as well to sustain the action, which is not easy at 16 years old, but consistently to go through the game, every phase, with the demands that we put on them, to be able to do that is extremely difficult. “And he's coping better and better and better. “He did the action where he regains the ball and wins it in the first goal. He loses his man, and that's the things that we need to continue to rectify with him. “He's an unbelievable player because of the character that he has and how much he loves to play at the biggest stage and still handle the situation with such a naturality.”

Julius Erving talking about playing with Charles Barkley: “I kept seeing his upside. He was hard-headed. He had something to say about everything. If he didn’t play as good as he can and well as he was capable of playing or whatever, then some of the things he did wouldn’t be tolerated. But they were tolerated because, you know, he was exceptional, man. He could rebound it, take it coast to coast, make play. And for his height to rebound the way that he did, it was incredible. It was kind of disruptive because we had won the championship the year before he got there. Then the year that he got there. We had to make room for him and he almost killed Marc Iavaroni cuz he was playing the four, Charles was like that’s my spot right there. This going back to violence in the game because the next man up. Me and you man. He get Iavaroni at his back. He back him all the way out to the top of the key” (Via All the Smoke)

Eberechi Eze on Mikel Arteta: “I think the boss speaks well and he's passionate and you can see the fire that he has in his eyes and his mind and that's been pushed around the whole training ground. “We know the opportunity that we have, we know what's at stake, we know what's possible and we've got an opportunity to make history as a club and regardless of what people say outside, it's about us here and what we're doing and we believe massively, we have so much confidence in what we're doing. “So that's been the main message, just to focus on what we're doing, focus on this feeling that we have and letting go of all the noise outside.”

Tim Thomas on playing AAU with Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter: “Those guys came to play with me so I had open arms, you know what I mean and it wasn’t like and y’all know my personality I was never that kind of guy with the ego. So, I was just excited because again we meet at five star. I was seeing what he was doing at five star. We heard about Kobe but never got a chance to see him because he came over late. And with Kobe, because he was in my class. I wanted to see where he was at, right? And then obviously he was right behind him as the number, you know, two or one shooting guards the next year in that class. So, we wanted to see, you what I mean? He was super, super confident. Like extreme confidence.” (Via Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady)
