Attack drones are reshaping modern warfare, but many countries still lack an effective way to defend their airspace. Earendil Robotics is building autonomous interceptors, along with the software and training needed to stand up that capability from scratch. Their systems can take off, transit, and intercept targets on their...

@vivianmshen @Earendil_R Automating air defense is just building a digital scarecrow. It looks impressive until something real flies in.

@vivianmshen @Earendil_R Autonomous air defense is a fascinating direction. The scale and accessibility angle is especially interesting.

@vivianmshen @Earendil_R Autonomous interceptors are only half the product. The training and stand-up software is where most defense robotics pitches quietly die.

BIG | 🇺🇦🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹‼️‼️ “Kyiv in three days” is dead, but Robert “Madyar” Brovdi is warning NATO not to assume that “the Baltics in three days” is equally impossible if Europe fails to understand how radically drones have transformed modern war. Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces commander said drones have become the “plague of the third millennium” and argued that NATO countries are seriously overestimating their readiness to withstand an enemy army fighting with modern technologies. Ukraine has spent years adapting to a battlefield saturated with FPV drones, autonomous systems, electronic warfare and constant reconnaissance, while Brovdi warns that many European militaries have still not experienced that level of technological pressure firsthand. His warning should not be dismissed as alarmism. NATO currently sees no evidence of an imminent Russian conventional attack, but European defense officials are simultaneously acknowledging serious weaknesses in sustaining a prolonged high-intensity war, particularly in ammunition, counter-drone capability and industrial depth. Ukraine is effectively absorbing the battlefield evolution that NATO may eventually have to confront itself. Europe therefore needs to treat Kyiv not merely as a recipient of military aid, but as the Alliance’s most experienced laboratory for modern warfare, and scale Ukrainian drone, electronic-warfare and counter-drone lessons before Russia gets an opportunity to test those weaknesses directly. Yesterday, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces set a record for the range of a drone strike on the enemy’s critical infrastructure — more than 3,300 km. When Commander Magyar offers NATO countries the “borscht recipe” and says that russia poses a threat to Europe and that NATO countries are not ready for drone war, many people do not take it seriously. Look at the numbers. - There are drones capable of covering 3,000 km and striking targets. From russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast, this distance covers all of Europe, including Iceland. - russia is scaling up and constantly increasing drone production. Confirmed drones launched against Ukraine per day: 948 on March 24. 892 on May 13. Even an “ordinary” night means around 100 attack drones. - Imagine daily mass raids with the modest figure of 200 drones per day against critical infrastructure facilities. Will the stockpiles of “classic” expensive air defense missiles be enough for a prolonged campaign against cheap drones flying in swarms? - No single “magic” air defense system or best drone can stop a mass raid. It is necessary to build an ecosystem of layered defense: early detection, electronic warfare, mobile fire groups, interceptor drones, gun-based air defense, and expensive missiles only for the most dangerous targets. Ukraine pays a bloody price every day for having invented this recipe. If NATO countries think they have plenty of time, they are mistaken. Europe must rapidly turn Ukraine’s lessons into doctrine, procurement, training, and force structure — including dedicated Unmanned Systems Forces in every country, integrated with air defense and conventional forces. Partnership with Ukraine is not only help for an ally that is holding back russia. It is the fastest way for Europe to prepare its own defense against a threat that already has range, scale, and pace.
