The brain control interface is the interesting part. Instead of using a controller or joystick to teleoperate, the operator's movements and intentions are captured more naturally through the exoskeleton and BCI. Another awesome robotics company raised funds in Europe. 🇪🇺 This time a company that is shipping robots that build! Monumental has raised $32M Series B led by Khosla Ventures, and its fleet of autonomous bricklaying robots has already built more than 100 real structures across Europe. Houses. A school. A community centre. A hotel. Canal walls. Founded by Salar al Khafaji al Khafaji and Sebastiaan Visser, the co-founders of data visualisation firm Silk, acquired by Palantir in 2016, this is a team that knows how to build and sell a company. The technology is serious: → Fleet of 100+ electric autonomous robots operating on live job sites today → Advanced sensors, computer vision and small cranes laying brick to millimetre precision → All driven by Atrium, their proprietary AI software platform → Nearly half of all homes built in the last three months alone, pace is compounding fast The business model is also worth taking a look at. Contractors don't buy the robots. They hire Monumental as an autonomous subcontractor and pay for finished wall. So in the end you only pay for the output. This is the same forward-deployed engineering model Palantir pioneered in software. Monumental brought it to physical robotics years before anyone else in the industry caught on. The backdrop makes this urgent. US construction is short 200,000-400,000 workers every month. Since 1945, US manufacturing productivity rose eightfold. At Amazon Air, the company's main air hub in Kentucky, hundreds of self-charging robots zoom across the warehouse floor to organize orders. These robots, called “drives,” follow small stickers on the floor to know where to go and when to speed up or slow down. Amazon has more than ONE MILLION robots in its facilities, and it’s even deploying more new types of robots that can sort items of different shapes and sizes. P.S. Build robots for a better future! 🚜 The farm-ng Amiga is more than just a farm robot — it’s an open-source development platform for agricultural innovation. Developers can easily build on top of its modular design, and developer-friendly SDK. Let's review other projects that were based on the Amiga robot! → At the Alcorn State University researchers developed a robot that uses UVC light to kill crops, pests, and diseases instead of chemical pesticides. It moves through crop rows using GPS and sensors to apply light precisely without harming plants. Such a cool one! → Another great project at Carnegie Mellon University, where they have developed a robot that plants trees automatically using a three-step process—digging, placing seedlings, and tamping the soil. It uses AI and sensors to navigate and ensure successful planting. → Last but not least, at Penn State University they created a weed-removing robot. This robot detects and removes weeds in high-tunnel farms. It uses cameras to map weed locations and applies precise herbicide amounts. This reduces chemical use, and labor, and improves crop management. As you can see, potential applications in agriculture are plentiful. Autonomous farming at Reservoir Farms in Salinas. When I got here joined a bunch of farmers from Florida who were visiting. But during the talks Bonsai Robotics caught my attention. One of the first to use world models to drive autonomous farm equipment. Here's their CEO, Tyler Niday, talking to me about what's going on in farming around the world. And of course we talk about world models. My favorite topic lately. They have robots farming in Australia and here in America in a variety of places. He ran autonomous tractors for John Deere USA for years. Reservoir Farms is an incubator—think of it like Y Combinator or Founders Inc., but for people who are making autonomous, AI-driven tractors and other farm equipment. It's a remarkable place. Worth telling anyone in farming about. @bernsteind, who runs it, used to work at Google in high tech and got the bug to help startups hit the farming market. He has a fairly big plot of land to do all sorts of testing, demos, and development work here in Salinas, with about 40 acres of a variety of different crops. That is something you can't do in Silicon Valley anymore. It takes me back to my childhood when Silicon Valley used to be all farms. It was a lot of fun hanging out with the farmers. They'll be doing some events and hackathons down here. If you're from Silicon Valley, it's only an hour south, and I highly recommend coming down to see what's going on. The AI part of farming is very similar to building an autonomous car or truck, so the kinds of jobs are very similar. The market is just very different, and the kinds of things a robot needs to figure out are different. You might be picking apples or spraying crops. You don't have pedestrian traffic, maybe, but you have other kinds of things you need to train and model on to work around. Anyways, I had a beautiful day hanging out here.

China is leading in the humanoid race. 🇨🇳 UBTECH Robotics has officially shipped hundreds of its Walker S2 humanoids, not to demos or showcases, but directly into factories and logistics centers. Of course, as is often the case in our robotic world, there were doubts and accusations that it was CGI. This is one of the first large-scale industrial rollouts anywhere in the world. The robots are going to partners like BYD, Geely Auto, FAW-Volkswagen, Dongfeng Liuzhou, and Foxconn, where they’ll be used in frontline production tasks. Let's look at monehh: so UBTECH’s 2025 order book now exceeds 800M yuan (~$113M), and the company targets 500 units delivered by year-end. The Walker S2 is built for continuous operation, including an autonomous battery-swap system that lets it replace its own power pack and keep working without downtime. While Europe is still debating standards and long-term frameworks, China is already doing full production, testing, and integration at scale. 🇪🇺 In the meantime, USA claims that Chinese robots are fake, and China casually keep shipping them. 🇺🇸 The challenge is no longer whether humanoids will be used in industry, it’s who gets them deployed, reliable, and affordable first. Today we start a new chapter at Affinity Farms. I always remember my dad talking about grandpa bringing home the first tractor on the farm 75years ago and his dad telling him, standing behind a horse drawn plow, get that thing out of here you’re going to tear down every piece of corn in this field. I always wondered what it was like seeing that transformation, living in a time where machinery replaced horses on the farm. Today we started what I think will be transformational not just for our farm, but for so many. We parked our big planters and tractors in the shed and set loose autonomy on the farm. Handing over all of our fall seeding for cash crop barley, rye and wheat. And planting all of our corn and soybeans next spring. While far from full autonomy on the farm it’s a giant leap of faith in that direction. There will be many hiccups along the way, but it’s something worth trying! Huge thank you to AIT, Precision Planting, and Sabanto for helping bring autonomy to row cropping. And a huge thank you to the farm team for the trust and commitment as we steer through the coming challenges and opportunities! Can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Steve Jobs on why consulting is like looking at a picture of a banana: "I don't think there's anything inherently evil in consulting. But without owning something over an extended period of time, like a few years where one has a chance to take responsibility for one's recommendations, where one has to see one's recommendations through all action stages and accumulate scar tissue for the mistakes and pick oneself up off the ground and dust oneself off… one learns a fraction of what one can." Steve continues: "When you're coming in and making recommendations and not owning the results, not owning the implementation, it's a fraction of the value and a fraction of the opportunity to learn and get better." This is what open robotics actually looks like! 🔓 I was in Bordeaux, sitting inside Pollen Robotics, and had a chance to play around with their humanoid robot Reachy 2. It’s expressive, modular, and can even bring you coffee, and of course runs Python or Rust. I was talking with Reachy in 3 different languages, tele-operating it and manipulating kitchen stuff, and make it even mimic my gestures. The best part is that there are no locked APIs, or hidden stuff, just an open platform that you can build upon. The connection with Hugging Face makes it super easy to start, as the open source approach allows everyone to contribute, experiment and add their own things. Robotics is entering the mainstream! 👀 Let's accept this fact. Consumptionism – stonks. Possibilities (HW + SW) – stonks. Demographics - not stonks. Modern robots are often designed to interact with our legacy world, whether it's a household, a factory, or a shipyard. That means they often need to work with existing machines, tools, and spaces. In short: retrofitting. Improving old machines with new technologies without major interference in their operation. Modern way of integrating things. You don't have to change the entire environment to deploy a robot. The robot will adapt, just as human would when freshly hired. The promise is to have an army of robots to help with the world designed for us. I also believe that general purpose robots, are not a direct competition for single purpose machines (like a highly efficient specialized packaging machine, for example). Hyundai Glovis achieves 100% robot uptime with wireless charging! 🔌 Hyundai Glovis faced a problem common to warehouse automation: charging downtime was killing efficiency. Their fleet of AGVs operated with a 6.75:1 work-to-charge ratio. Every seventh robot was charging at any given moment. This meant 15% operational efficiency loss, or the need to purchase 15% extra robots just to compensate for charging downtime. CaPow solution is wireless power transfer while robots work! 🛜 The Genesis platform uses capacitive charging pads placed in the floor where robots naturally stop during operations, in this case, at picking stations. No docking required, no deviation from routes, no excavation needed. The test compared two identical setups. Section A used three robots with traditional charging (operate until 40% battery, charge to 95%). Section B used three robots with CaPow's system, charging at the picking station while operators picked items from bins. Traditional robots lost 8.3% battery per hour and suffered 33% operational inefficiency (150 minutes downtime out of 447 minutes). CaPowered robots gained 1% battery per hour on average and achieved 100% uptime for the entire 8-hour shift. The math on a 100-robot fleet is clear.
