Ceylon cinnamon, also known as "true" cinnamon, from brands like Loisa Organic Cinnamon or Simply Organic Ceylon Cinnamon can be safer options. These often have lower levels of coumarin and potentially lower lead, although not all are tested for lead. Look for 3rd party tested brands.

So sad when poor families relied on sugar and cinnamon with butter on toasted white bread as a treat. At least that was my upbringing. My mom thought it was better than candy at the time.

I have lead poisoning from cinnamon, and at 70 years of age it is hard to get rid of it. My bottle of Badia cinnamon was tested by the lab used by Consumer Lab, and found to contain extremely high levels of lead.
