Boeing 777-9 undergoing VMU (Velocity Minimum Unstick) testing. This certification test determines the minimum speed at which the aircraft can safely take off. During the test, the jet accelerates to takeoff speed and is pitched to its maximum angle of attack until the tail drags on the ground. The exact moment it lifts off defines the VMU, with the tail protected by a temporary skid.
