Sanskrit in a Chinese movie. Hiuen Tsang, spoke in Sanskrit because medium of Instruction was Sanskrit in Nalanda. During the time of Fa Hien and Hiuen Tsang, Chinese Buddhist students used to learn Sanskrit to get admission in universities of India, similar to TOEFL exam for getting admission in US universities in modern times.

Rescuing Nalanda's famous library. Scholars from Tibet, China, Cambodia, Mongolia, and other places regularly visited Nalanda University to translate the books in its library. This is a precious collection of India's original knowledge that was highly sought after by everyone in the world. Later on, Muslim invaders burned down the entire library of Nalanda. When the Dalai Lama came from Tibet to India in the 1950s, he brought back several hundred Tibetan translations of these works. Infinity Foundation Infinity Foundation gave a grant to Columbia University 20 years ago to translate into English some of the most important books in Nalanda University that were burned by Muslim invaders centuries ago. That project has continued since then as a result of our foundation's historic role in the revival of Indian knowledge.

In ancient India, knowledge was never accepted simply because it came from a holy book, tradition or authority. A religious or philosophical idea had to withstand scrutiny, logic and debate. Winning a debate often shaped the spread of belief systems, not through force, but through the power of reasoning and conviction. This same intellectual spirit later lived on in Tibetan monastic debate, rooted in the great universities of Nalanda, Vikramshila and Odantapuri. A glimpse of this tradition was witnessed today, as students of Thubten Choelling Balika Vidyalaya, Lhou demonstrated the timeless art of debate with confidence, discipline and joy for learning.

This school started with 50 students and overtime grew to 2,300 students who rotate in morning and afternoon shifts. To provide a toilet unit with 2 toilets, the cost will be around $7,500 with 11% commission and probably another $500 for plumbing and transportation costs. OAU transport system was near perfect, adequate buses and bikes, we rarely experienced queues until the First Lady came and decided she didn’t like the ease of transportation and introduced “change” by donating CNG buses. The school management in turn banned all motorcycles and commercial buses on campus and subjected over 30,000 students to just about 50 buses and a few tricycles. OAU has one of the largest land masses of any Nigerian university, yet students are now stranded daily. This is a Monday morning where students are supposed to rush for class, but they are stuck at the campus gate because of the inefficiency of the CNG buses. Students are struggling to go to class in the morning and in the evenings to even get back to their hostels. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. We can no longer remain silent. Let the whole world know what OAU students are going through. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. We can no longer remain silent. Let the whole world know what OAU students are going through. Beyond horrifying: ‘Tulane for #Palestine’, a group not registered with the university but made up of Tulane students, held a pro-#Hamas rally off campus. Jewish and Israeli students, as well as their allies, peacefully held #Israeli flags across the road, and were viciously attacked and beat up by a group of pro-Hamas demonstrators. A pro-Hamas student was going to burn the Israeli flag when a Jewish student decided to take the flag away. As a crowd of Hamas supporting students rushed towards the Jewish student, security in the area went to break it up, but not before a pro-Hamas protester hit a student in the head with a pole, resulting in the hospitalization of the Jewish student. Since the event wasn’t on campus, however, Tulane did not intervene. This is what college students are experiencing on and off campus around the country. Now, more than ever, administrations must stand by their Jewish students.
