Who am I to question the Tunnel Road project? asks DCM. Sir, I am a common Kannadiga. A Bengaluru boy who loves our city. A common man who is suffering in traffic everyday. As a Bengalurean and with deep concern for the city's future, I would urge the DCM to consult experts and transport planners before making a decision on the tunnel road, ensuring that it serves the best interests of the city. Many citizens of Bengaluru are expressing their opposition to this proposal, and the DCM asks what authority they have oppose. Let me remind - we are taxpaying citizens. Bengaluru belongs to us all. The young people associated with organisations working in Kota city, like @kota_community, are proving this through their actions. Today, we conducted a special operation targeting Cemetery View and Plastic View Informal Settlements. We arrested over 90 illegal immigrants who are now being processed by Home Affairs. Deportations are expected in next few days following court approval. This is the beginning of a process to clean-up these areas. We have 800 South Africans who reside in Plastic View and they will be relocated by the City. Residents of Pretoria East have for years decried the lack of action pertaining to these informal settlements. We are glad that today the City was able to bring in support from SAPS and Home Affairs. I wish to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the Fort Portal City clean-up exercise as part of the National Clean-Up Campaign. During the exercise, I discovered two “baby Rwenzori Mountains” made entirely of accumulated garbage. This is a clear reminder that we must strengthen waste management and make cleanliness a shared responsibility. Special thanks to all the leaders who have been part of this campaign. God bless you for your commitment and service to our people. Thank you, MTN Uganda, for partnering with us and supporting this important initiative. We shall clean all local governments across Uganda. Together, we will build cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful communities.

Four years ago, I signed an emergency order during COVID to temporarily transform JFK Drive into a car-free promenade for people to gather safely during the pandemic. This one change was so successful that we made it permanent and created one of our city’s great new open spaces. Today we’re celebrating four years of JFK Promenade and the kind of change that’s possible when we work to make our city a more welcoming place for everyone to gather and be together. Why do our cities look dirty, with garbage everywhere? Here, a child is showing a banner about the penalty for littering, but his parents ignore it. The same parents will later complain on social media and blame the authorities for not keeping our cities clean. We often complain, but we don't take responsibility ourselves but expect others to do so. We drive on the wrong side of the road and then complain about drivers who do the same. We throw garbage and then complain about unhygienic conditions. This is a result of social norms. We tend to do what others are doing, and the police cannot catch everyone, giving people an unfair advantage. This mentality trickles up the ladder, and nobody takes responsibility, leading to the mess we see in our cities. Our airports are clean because no one throws garbage there, and there is a positive demonstration of social norms. A few good people are not enough to change society.

Do not ruin the image of Namma Bengaluru by turning our roads into places of chaos in the name of parties and New Year celebrations. Seeing youths drunk, falling on the streets, fighting, abusing others, and creating nuisance in public spaces is shameful and unacceptable.Bengaluru has always been known for its culture, civility, and inclusive values. Our city respects and welcomes people from every state and every background who come here to work hard, build their careers, and live peacefully. That openness and mutual respect are what make Bengaluru truly great. However, in the name of celebration, some individuals are ruining this spirit and giving our city a bad image.Celebration does not mean losing self-control. Enjoyment does not give anyone the right to block roads, create fear, disrespect women, damage public property, or disturb others who simply want to live in peace. Last night, I was called to the scene where a young man had vandalized one of our newly installed dustbins in the CBD. Together with our County Environment Officers, we swiftly responded and arrested the suspect, who was caught in the act by vigilant and responsible citizens. He is now set to be arraigned in court. As the County Government, we remain committed to environmental conservation. The installation of these dustbins across the city is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a clean, organized, and sustainable Nairobi. These public utilities are vital, and we must ensure they are protected for both current and future generations. I want to sincerely thank the concerned citizens whose quick action led to the arrest. I urge all residents to remain vigilant and continue working with us to protect public property. Environmental conservation is a shared responsibility.
