Today I was honoured to table my private member's bill, an Act to Amend the Criminal Code (Promotion of Hatred against Indigenous Peoples), to add to the Criminal Code the promotion of hatred through residential school denialism. We owe survivors more than words, we owe them action. This bill is about protecting their safety, honouring their truths and ensuring that the hard-won truth of what happened in residential schools is never erased or denied again. I call on all Members of Parliament to stand with survivors to protect the truth, uphold dignity and walk the path of real reconciliation together.

Today on St George's Day, the Telegraph reported that the Attorney General, in private, gave advice on bogus allegations against British veterans. He should recuse himself from giving advice on such matters, but especially on the Troubles Bill which as it stands at the moment at least, will victimise even more British soldiers. I asked the Leader of the House if we can have a debate on the misuse of such government legal advice:

Minister of Justice Sean Fraser was asked about Bill C-9 today and the possibility of the amendment to strip the Criminal Code of the protection for free religious speech in Canada. For the record, here is his full statement. While we appreciate that Minister Fraser thinks that the amendment to strip the good-faith religious text exemption will have no real implication on religious and individual freedom, we respectfully disagree. Among other factors, there would be no reason to strip the exemption at all in the first place if doing so had zero effect of the Criminal Code. We need more consultation on Bill C-9. All Canadians and concerned communities must be heard. We must protect freedom and free expression.
