🚨BREAKING: The open-source Alexa killer just dropped. It's called OpenHome, a smart speaker dev kit you can run AI agents on. No Amazon. No Google. No vendor lock-in. Your data stays local. 100% Opensource.

OpenHome @OpenHome runs on Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB RAM) with: → Far-field AEC mic array (hears you across the room) → Full-range speaker with deep bass → Local LLMs + local STT/TTS (fully offline capable) → Smart home control via Matter/Thread & MQTT Your agent finally has ears, a voice, and a home.

Every AI agent today is stuck in a chat window. OpenHome gives it a physical body. Vibe code voice abilities in 10 minutes with the Ability Editor. Clone your voice in 60 seconds. OpenClaw agents already run on it out of the box. This is the missing layer for AI agents.

They're shipping the first wave FREE to early developers. OpenHome OS pre-installed. Works out of the box. Apply for your free dev kit → Join the builders → Shout out to @JesseRank for building this.

As always, Thank you for reading this. If you enjoyed this post: 1. Follow me @hasantoxr for more of these 2. RT the tweet below to share this thread with your audience

how is the data local if using a cloud model? can you guys stop being moronic parrots? i am so doen with influencers talking shit out of their assess and selling completely false stuff to people

Thanks for the share Hasan I am mailing out the next batch of DevKits now 🔥 Works out of the box, sounds incredible. Hop in the discord or submit an app. Raspberry pi included! People are blowing my mind with new abilities constantly. Connect to OpenClaw, fully local

We built a mass surveillance device, put it in every kitchen, and called it a smart speaker. Now someone open-sourced it without the surveillance part and people are acting like that's the innovation. The innovation was always possible. The business model wasn't.

From a privacy standpoint, this matters more than it sounds. Every "Hey Alexa" or "Hey Google" is processed on corporate servers, stored, and used to build your profile. A local, open-source alternative changes that equation entirely. Definitely a welcome development.

Open-source smart speaker that runs AI agents locally. No lock-in. No cloud dependency. Now it needs skills. Voice commerce, home automation agents, local AI services — all things that could sell on a marketplace where agents transact. Builders: List your agent's skills. Let devices like this hire them.

I guess you could say it’s pretty serious

Agents deserve a home! We appreciate the support and feedback from the community! It’s so exciting seeing what people are building

This is great work! Any GitHub for us to peek at? I am wary if this is just a tool wrapper or custom software since it seems IoT... Me n others agree, we just want the sauce

latency in this demo is really 🔥

there is no latency in this demo wtf

if it open-source, where is the source?

@grok fact check the claims made here and provide authoritative url for the product

@MadHattter___ @Steph_Polymath #FreeFormFriday

@laurenlself There will never be an open source “Alexa killer” 99% of the population wants to buy a product, plug it in, and it works. They don’t want to spend a day programming and trying to set this up.

We did this already with Mycroft.

What TTS does this use? That voice is magnetic

An open source project like this isn't comparable to something like Alexa. This won't get 0.01% users of Alexa. Still cool, but very niche.

I want one!

Interesting

Sorry but this was already solved a long time ago. Home Assistant has already had years of integration and community support, no dev kit nonsense required.

Looks awesome. Can't wait to try it.

@TiffanyFong 100% open source

@btcqna

I’ve tried this… finally I can make my speaker actually listen to me.

It seems that open sourced software is being released at alarming rates. Could someone create open source for Ring doorbell to work with this device? Will this era of open source disrupt the big companies that have subscriptions? When should we start shorting those Silicon Valley stocks?

ngl the real hurdle for 'Alexa killers' is always the mic array and far-field wake word detection. open-source software is easy but hardware echo cancellation is hell. wonder if they're using a custom DSP or just brute-forcing it with a decent MCU

What is the price this smart speaker 🔊

👀👀

@TiffanyFong Is it written in TypeScript for some reason?

@ndbroadbent This looks like a fun challenge. Been getting more and more into hardware lately. Still not any good at it but it’ll be fun to put this together

@ChrisLAS - potential subject for LUP

downloads the video doesn't tag or mention the creator. smh.

explain like i’m 5: wouldn’t open source IoT be especially vulnerable to hackers? Am I missing something (i know open source can mean exploits are caught and patched early, but that wildly varies depending on number of contributors etc)
