There was only one Buddy Rich, one of the greatest ever. Mel Torme’ was a professional drummer in NYC and one night went to see Buddy play. Mel later said that he realized that night that he would never be that good so he decided to focus on singing. We all benefited from that decision as Mel was an amazing singer. He regularly would still play drums on his shows but never as the primary drummer.
