Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar Ishaq Dar met with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum #ARF2026 in Manila. The two Foreign Ministers reaffirmed the close and friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in trade, economic connectivity, defence, and people-to-people exchanges. They appreciated the positive momentum in institutional engagements, growing economic and trade cooperation, and the successful visit of the Pakistan cricket team to Sri Lanka. Both sides also agreed on the importance of sustained high-level exchanges in further strengthening bilateral ties. Here are some of the major highlights from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the last 10 days. 1️⃣ Held a productive dialogue with the European Union Trade and Economic Security Commissioner, Mr Maros Sefcovic, in Brussels. We conducted detailed deliberations on key areas of the proposed India-EU FTA. Also emphasized the strategic importance of concluding a fair, balanced, and ambitious agreement that aligns with their shared values, economic priorities, and commitment to a rules-based trading framework. 2️⃣ Visited Liechtenstein and reviewed the implementation of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. Also met H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois and the top political leadership. Encouraged greater participation of EFTA companies in key trade and investment events in India and invited closer collaboration through business dialogues and delegations. 3️⃣ As part of the initial rollout of the Export Promotion Mission, two key interventions under the NIRYAT PROTSAHAN sub-scheme have been launched to strengthen MSME exports and improve access to trade finance. These interventions will lower cost of exporting for MSMEs, give them improved cash flow and liquidity, encourage them to explore new export markets, give easier access to bank loans to MSME exporters, make them less dependent on property or asset collateral and boost export growth, especially among small firms.

India’s energy demand is expected to grow 2.5 times by 2047, accounting for around 25% of incremental global demand. Over the past decade, transformative reforms under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji have strengthened domestic capabilities, diversified energy sources, deepened strategic partnerships and accelerated our transition towards cleaner energy. The recently launched Samudra Manthan, with an outlay of over ₹84,000 crore up to FY 2030-31, is a major push to unlock India’s offshore hydrocarbon potential, including opening nearly 1 million sq. km of previously designated “No-Go” areas for exploration. It will strengthen domestic E&P and contribute to reducing import dependence. At the heart of India’s energy strategy is the ability to balance the trilemma of availability, affordability and sustainability despite the geopolitical disruptions.
