Learning dexterous policies from human videos is challenging due to differences between human and robot hands. We present HuDOR, a method that learns dexterous policies within the robot's physical constraints using just one human video and an hour of online interactions! [1/n]

How to learn dexterous manipulation for any robot hand from a single human demonstration? Check out DexMachina, our new RL algorithm that learns long-horizon, bimanual dexterous policies for a variety of dexterous hands, articulated objects, and complex motions.

Columbia Engineering developed 'Human-Robot Facial Co-expression' to enhance human-robot interactions. They used a silicon-clad robot face that allows a robot to make eye contact and use AI to mimic more human-like facial expressions in real time.

.Jason Ma on how Dyna-2 learned to untwist a real water bottle cap out of the box from just 13 minutes of dexterous hand data because the robot hand looks like a human's: "We got a new pair of dexterous hand. Most of our robots in the office have a gripper-like hand, so the gap between that versus human is actually quite large." "We thought, if we have a robot that has hands that look like human, wouldn't the transfer be greater? Right before the release, they were able to collect just 13 minutes of data." "They collected only 13 minutes of data and then post-trained the best Dyna model that trained on one million hours of data. The model is just able to, out of the box, start opening bottle caps on real water bottles." "This is very surprising because typically post-training a robot would take at least several hours of data. For a dexterous hand that's much more complex than a gripper, it would actually be much harder to train. But the experimental results we saw was the opposite. Perhaps because the hand looks more like the human, the transfer was easier." Dyna Robotics

Teaching robots to perform dexterous manipulation tasks currently requires teleoperation, which limits demonstration quality, speed, and scalability. Instead, why not use human videos? The problem is that a human hand isn’t a robot hand, so data must be retargeted using simulation to resolve issues like collisions and interpenetration when controlling the hand. In VideoManip, Hongyi Chen and co-authors built a system to solve this problem, taking in RGB videos of humans performing manipulation tasks and using them to create accurate simulations with which to learn robot policies. Watch episode #73 of RoboPapers, hosted by Michael Cho - Rbt/Acc and Chris Paxton, now to learn more!

X Square Robot has introduced TwinDEX: a co-designed pair of three-finger, 9-DoF dexterous hands, one wearable for data collection, one matched robot end effector for deployment. The wearable and the robot hand share the same kinematics, geometry, materials, look, and sensors, so human demos map straight to the robot without retargeting. Human data collection improves throughput 5.3x compared to teleoperation, and a policy can be trained with a few hundred episodes without any robot data.

Scaling vision-language-action (VLA) models to high-DoF dexterous hands has long been a "holy grail" challenge due to the high-dimensional action space and data scarcity. As a wrap up of the year 2025, we are releasing GR-Dexter, a holistic hardware-model-data framework for generalist manipulation on a bimanual dexterous-hand robot. This is the first VLA system to achieve: ✅ High-DoF Control: Managing a 56-DoF bimanual system (21-DoF per hand). ✅ Long-Horizon Tasks with tool use: Vacuuming, bread serving with tongs, and table decluttering. ✅ Open-World Generalization: Robust performance with unseen objects and abstract instructions. Project page: ArXiv:

Can a dexterous hand still function after being run over by a 2-ton car? The dexterous hand is the most expensive component of a humanoid robot, and if it breaks, the task is interrupted. Hangzhou BrainCo conducted a rigorous test on its latest dexterous hand, Revo2: it was run over by a nearly 2-ton Volvo car, dropped from a height of 5m, dropped 30m, and subjected to forceful impacts from a Unitree G1 robot. It still managed to maintain a stable grip and continue operating. Revo2 is BrainCo's next-generation dexterous/bionic hand, released last year. yes, a human-robot hybrid hand. It's very light, only 383g, 20kg payload, capable of precision manipulation down to 0.1mm (such as threading a needle), and possesses multi-dimensional tactile perception (hardness, texture, direction, proximity, etc.). This test also demonstrates that after achieving breakthroughs in performance, a dexterous hand also needs to be extremely durable and able to function under extreme environmental pressures.

Hands are as important as the brain. From Shenzhen, Stella Robot has unveiled the PANTHEON HAND 22:a new generation of bionic dexterous hand that combines 22 degrees of freedom with remarkable strength and finesse. It’s a hand that truly understands precision. It can lift 30 kilograms, yet is delicate enough to thread a needle. Each finger can bear 1.5 kilograms, and the entire hand can gently hold a piece of tofu or sense the subtle expansion of a balloon. Powered by a tendon-driven mechanism with integrated actuators inside the forearm, it achieves compact design and natural, human-like movement. From precision assembly and component handling to material transport and human-robot collaboration, the PANTHEON HAND 22 shows what it means for humanoid robots to truly work with their hands.

Robotics just hit a dexterity milestone 🤯! Sharpa Robotics demonstrated autonomous dual-hand apple peeling using its new MoDE-VLA system. Using human-like dexterous hands with tactile sensing, the robot can feel contact and adjust its grip while rotating and peeling the apple. While the system achieved 30% success, the 73% peel completion rate shows robots are starting to master the fine, contact-rich manipulation needed for real world tasks.

Westworld-like hand Suzhou-bassed Rochu Robotics just tested a biomimetic hand that is completely different from the rigid motor-driven dexterous hands on the market: Pneumatic/Fluid-driven artificial muscles + 1:1 human skeletal structure. These artificial muscles contract when pressurized, just like biological ones --pulling on biomimetic tendons to move the joints with smooth, natural motion. Just 4 biomimetic muscles can easily lift a 3kg kettlebell, and demonstrate the versatility of flexible grasping…while also acing fast finger challenges (peace sign, rock on, counting, etc.) almost matching a real human hand. True compliance and safety in human-robot interaction,no more cold, stiff mechanics. This one is developing real life-like movement logic.

Scientists developed HumanX, a system that lets humanoid robots learn new skills by watching just one short human video. It learns directly from demonstrations instead of large datasets or complex training rewards. Using this, the Unitree G1 humanoid robot learned 10 different real-world skills without extra training.
