I like the way that they conveniently cut the video any time they need to add a cut down end piece. I'm a fan of robotics but "look at this robot place flat objects on the flat ground" is not a good advertisement. A Roomba is more impressive.

Another awesome robotics company raised funds in Europe. 🇪🇺 This time a company that is shipping robots that build! Monumental has raised $32M Series B led by Khosla Ventures, and its fleet of autonomous bricklaying robots has already built more than 100 real structures across Europe. Houses. A school. A community centre. A hotel. Canal walls. Founded by Salar al Khafaji al Khafaji and Sebastiaan Visser, the co-founders of data visualisation firm Silk, acquired by Palantir in 2016, this is a team that knows how to build and sell a company. The technology is serious: → Fleet of 100+ electric autonomous robots operating on live job sites today → Advanced sensors, computer vision and small cranes laying brick to millimetre precision → All driven by Atrium, their proprietary AI software platform → Nearly half of all homes built in the last three months alone, pace is compounding fast The business model is also worth taking a look at. Contractors don't buy the robots. They hire Monumental as an autonomous subcontractor and pay for finished wall. So in the end you only pay for the output. This is the same forward-deployed engineering model Palantir pioneered in software. Monumental brought it to physical robotics years before anyone else in the industry caught on. The backdrop makes this urgent. US construction is short 200,000-400,000 workers every month. Since 1945, US manufacturing productivity rose eightfold. Construction gained just 10%, and has actually declined since the 1960s. LET'S MAKE CONSTRUCTION BUSINESSES SEXY AGAIN! 🧱 ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news →

Japan Just Built a HouseBot You Control Without Speaking and It Changes Everything! Donut Robotics has officially unveiled its first bipedal humanoid, Cinnamon 1, and instead of focusing on louder voices or bigger motors, the company went in the opposite direction. Silence. Cinnamon 1 introduces what Donut Robotics calls Silent Gesture Control, a system that allows the humanoid to be guided using simple hand and finger movements rather than spoken commands. This approach feels especially well suited for real world environments where traditional voice control falls apart. Busy factory floors. Construction sites filled with constant noise. Even quiet indoor settings where voice commands feel awkward or intrusive. It also opens the door for far more accessible human robot interaction, particularly for users with impairments. While the current Cinnamon 1 hardware is built on an OEM platform, the intelligence driving it is where Donut Robotics is placing its long term bet. The team is actively developing custom Vision Language Action AI that allows the robot to interpret what it sees, understand intent, and respond with physical action. The goal is not just smarter robots, but robots that feel more natural. Even more ambitious is the company’s plan for full domestic production. Donut Robotics has stated its intention to localize both manufacturing and AI development in Japan, reinforcing the country’s reputation for precision engineering and thoughtful robotics design. If timelines hold, Cinnamon 1 units are expected to begin deployment in factories and construction environments by the end of 2026. That puts this humanoid squarely in the category of near term reality rather than distant concept. The takeaway is simple but important. As humanoid robots move out of labs and into daily work environments, the winners may not be the loudest or flashiest machines. They may be the ones that understand us without a word being spoken.

Video: World’s first humanoid robot labor that swaps its own batteries to work endlessly | Jijo Malayil, Interesting Engineering Walker S2 uses dual-battery balancing and standardized modules to boost efficiency and ensure uninterrupted, optimized performance. In a leap for robotics, China’s UBTech has unveiled the Walker S2, the world’s first humanoid robot capable of fully autonomous battery swapping. Designed for non-stop industrial operations, the Walker S2 can replace its own power pack in just three minutes—no human intervention required. Equipped with advanced anthropomorphic bipedal locomotion and a hot-swappable battery system, Walker S2 is built to operate 24/7 across dynamic industrial environments. According to UBTech, the next-generation humanoid robot marks a major milestone in automation, bringing continuous, hands-free performance to the factory floor. In May 2025, UBTech Robotics and Huawei Technologies inked a significant partnership to accelerate the adoption of humanoid robots across China’s factories and households. Uninterrupted robot operations A video posted by the robotics firm opens with the sleek UBTech Walker S2 humanoid robot working in an industrial setting. The highlight, however, is its autonomous battery swap. Walker S2 approaches the charging station, carefully detaches its depleted power pack, and seamlessly installs a fresh one—all within about three minutes—without any human assistance, according to CGTN. The camera captures close-ups of the robot’s articulated limbs and the intelligent battery-handling mechanism, conveying precision and reliability. As the swap completes, Walker S2 resumes its duties, reinforcing the promise of uninterrupted, 24/7 operations in dynamic factory environments. UBTech’s Walker S2 humanoid robot is equipped with advanced dual-battery power balancing technology and uses standardized battery modules to optimize performance, reports CNEVPOST. This dual-battery system allows the robot to automatically switch to a backup battery in case of a main battery failure, ensuring that critical tasks are carried out without interruption. In addition to battery swapping, the robot can intelligently choose between charging and swapping based on task urgency, allowing it to manage energy dynamically and adapt to real-time operational demands. UBTech highlights these features as a step forward in deploying humanoid robots for industrial and domestic applications, combining flexibility, reliability, and autonomy in one intelligent platform. Factory intelligence upgrade Earlier in the year, UBTech unveiled a major advancement in humanoid robot collaboration, claiming the world’s first deployment of multiple humanoids working together across varied industrial tasks. Demonstrated at Zeekr’s 5G-enabled smart factory, the breakthrough centers on UBTech’s “BrainNet” framework, which orchestrates cooperative behavior through a cloud-device intelligence system. BrainNet integrates a “super brain” for high-level decision-making with an “intelligent sub-brain” for distributed multi-robot control. The super brain, powered by a proprietary large-scale multimodal reasoning model, handles complex production-line scheduling and decision-making. Meanwhile, the sub-brain coordinates real-time tasks using cross-field perception and Transformer-based control for dynamic adaptability. Together, they enable the Walker S1 humanoid robots to move beyond isolated operations and perform coordinated tasks with high precision and speed. The system is built on DeepSeek-R1 reasoning technology and trained on real-world data from automotive factory settings. Leveraging Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), the model adapts to specific job functions and improves scalability across workstations. At Zeekr’s facility, dozens of Walker S1s now collaborate on tasks like assembly, inspection, and part handling. Using semantic VSLAM and shared mapping, they coordinate seamlessly via vision-based navigation and agile manipulation. UBTech says this marks a transition to “Practical Training 2.0,” where humanoid robots operate as a swarm, maximizing efficiency and setting the stage for next-generation intelligent manufacturing.

🚨 BREAKING: Big news in the computer vision world! 🎥 Luxonis | Robotic Vision just dropped its new OAK 4 line, and it’s a big upgrade for edge computer vision. Instead of being “just a stereo camera,” OAK 4 is a fully standalone vision computer with 52 TOPS of on-device AI. Models run locally, depth is computed locally, and no external PC or cloud pipeline is required. This is why robotics teams love it: lower latency, lower cost, fewer failure points in the field. The hardware is built for the real-world. IP67, shock-resistant, wide-FOV RGB + stereo pair, IR projection, IMU, audio, and a patent-pending calibration system that keeps depth accurate even when conditions change. But the real move is the platform. With Luxonis Hub, you can deploy models, grab telemetry, push OTA updates, or collect data when performance drifts, all from a unified interface. It turns a single device into an end-to-end edge CV system. Most customers today in robotics are groups who just want something that works: AMRs, bin-picking systems, trailer-loading robots, and ag-tech. 🤖 And they all say the same thing, the appeal isn’t raw TOPS, it’s the all-in-one simplicity that lets them scale without building custom infrastructure. Feels like the direction edge vision has been waiting for: rugged hardware + high-throughput on-device compute + a real management layer. A next step toward “plug-and-deploy” perception for robots. 🔗 Find out more here: ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news →

China’s construction tech is on another level! If you still picture construction sites with tones of workers swinging hammers, you’re officially stuck in the 90s. In China they’re out here building skyscrapers like it’s a speedrun challenge, with a tech stack that would make Silicon Valley jealous. AI-Powered Smart Sites Drones, IoT sensors, and AI are managing construction sites better than some human managers. Real-time safety alerts, automated progress tracking, and even predictive maintenance are standard tools, not fancy bonuses. Green Building Technologies Solar panels built into facades. Rainwater harvesting embedded into skyscrapers. Buildings that regulate their own temperature to save energy, not future dreams, but today’s standards. Robotics in Construction From brick-laying robots to rebar-tying machines, construction crews in China now have mechanical teammates with no lunch breaks, no grumbling. Welcome to Construction 2.0 (China Edition) Humans supervising, robots building! Gone are the days when a construction site meant a hundred+ guys with shovels. In China’s construction sites today, the machines are the real MVPs, humans mostly sip coffee and supervise. Bricklaying Human hands? Please. Robotic arms now lay bricks faster, straighter, and neater than your uncle’s weekend DIY projects. Some can lay 1,000+ bricks an hour and never ask for overtime. Excavation Remember digging trenches with shovels? That’s adorable. Now AI-guided autonomous excavators carve the earth with GPS-level precision while operators chill in air-conditioned control rooms. Concrete Pouring Giant robotic nozzles squeezing out entire building frames like they’re icing a wedding cake. Layers and layers, no sweat, no mess, no “oops, we need to redo that wall.” Welding You think shaky human hands are still melting steel together? Nah. Robot welders buzz and spark with perfect, tireless accuracy, even in places that are too risky for humans to reach. Inspection Sending humans to climb scaffolding 50 stories up? Very 2002. Now drones buzz around construction sites like paparazzi, scanning every beam, bolt, and brick, spotting defects before a human eye would even blink. Material Transport Why carry things manually when you can have self-driving forklifts and delivery bots moving steel, concrete, and pipes faster than an Amazon Prime truck? Site Monitoring Forget some guy in a neon vest wandering around with a clipboard. Today it’s AI-driven command centers tracking thousands of data points: worker safety, machinery health, material delivery schedules all from one giant screen. Project Planning Old: Paper blueprints and arguing architects. New: AI and BIM (Building Information Modeling) simulate the entire building in virtual reality before the first brick is even printed. This video shows how construction sites in China are now using robots to handle tasks like rebar placement, concrete pouring, and polishing, which has led to a 50% reduction in the workforce at some projects. The robots are proving to be more efficient, with one project's furnace robot achieving a 20% efficiency increase in just 5 days, saving 5% on labor costs. The construction company is developing even more advanced robots for future use as they work to improve smart construction technology for widespread real-time application. At China’s next-gen construction sites, humans don’t sweat, they strategize. Machines are not seen as luxury, they are seen as a necessity. Why does it matter? China is using 5G, AI, IoT, and robotics to build entire smart cities. And when the world comes looking for fast, sustainable, and scalable construction models… guess who’s already handing out the blueprints? Next time you hear: ‘Made in China,’ think bigger, it is: ‘Engineered for the future in China.’
