Movement is an essential part of how kids learn Yes it helps them develop things like balance & coordination But regular movement helps them build their confidence, develops their decision making and helps them focus. The goal is to create opportunities to move daily: Running Jumping Climbing Balancing Hanging & swinging Dont overthink it. Get them to a park, take them on hike or buy some gym equipment for their play room. Just give them the opportunity to move & they will figure it out.

Multiple people are reporting that recess is being eliminating in their elementary schools Kids no longer go out on the swings and slides to play and socialize Instead “we have computer time where we watch YouTube videos and go on our phones” Multiple teachers and parents are consuming this is happening at their schools This is going to be devastating to their futures. Recess is meant for socializing and exercise which is very healthy for kids Here are so many benefits to recess kids won’t be getting - 60 minutes of movement per day helps support kids heart health, muscle and bone development, coordination, balance, and motor skills - Combats childhood obesity - Improves attention, memory, and concentration And the most important part Develops social skills. Kids practice sharing, negotiating, cooperating, resolving conflicts, and building friendships through free play These skills are much harder to learn in structured screen-based activities

Proper general movement training can go a long way toward helping improve overall athleticism. Movement sessions for children should be fun, engaging, challenging, and most importantly, semi-organized. Between school and sports, children spend their entire day in an organized setting being constantly told what to do. A good training program will let young athletes develop their own style of movement to be able to solve movement problems in their own unique way. Children develop this movement sense by practicing, exploring movement, and trying things out. #LTAD #youthathleticdevelopment

This year has been a trying year for my family. Wife has had to deal with surgery, chemo, and now radiation for stage 3 breast cancer. To help my kids cope and thrive I’m having my kids hit a lot of balls everyday (table tennis and tennis). It’s part distraction but it’s also a way for them to grow in their coordination, reflexes, athleticism, and more. It keeps them positive, active and eager to learn and grow. Focus on the ball and hit it. Hundreds of times everyday. Something good will come out of it. At least that’s my hope.

Over the last 20 years, there has been a push in youth sports to spend any and all available practice time on developing specific sport skills at the expense of developing all-around athleticism. You would think that, with all this specialized practice in one sport, we would be seeing a generation of superstars. In fact, it’s just the opposite: Injury and burnout rates are at an all-time high. I have seen young athletes as young as 8-9 years old competing at a regional and national level for their perspective sports, and yet they cant do basic things like : 1. Balance on one leg 2. Complete an honest pushup 3. Never learned to fall correctly. Amazingly these skills don't require special training. Proper general movement training can go a long way toward helping improve overall athleticism. Movement sessions for children should be fun, engaging, challenging, and most importantly, semi-organized. Between school and sports, children spend their entire day in an organized setting being constantly told what to do. The amount of mini-adult training programs on social media is astounding... Just an FYI: Kids have little desire to do: planks split squats weighted carries They literally have the rest of their lives to exercise. The pre-adolescent years should be dedicated to developing agility, balance, coordination, and body awareness in a dynamic and engaging environment. It's important that children have positive movement experiences early in life so that have a desire to continue to move as they get older. #LTAD

A pawsome day with Guide Dogs! 🐾 The Duchess of Edinburgh, Patron of Guide Dogs, enjoyed a special visit to the charity’s Reading Hub today to learn more about the services the charity provides for children with vision impairments. 🐕 The Duchess met children working to develop their independent living skills through the support and companionship of their buddy dogs, provided by Guide Dogs. A buddy dog is a canine friend that helps a child with a vision impairment build confidence, increase their physical activity, and improve their wellbeing. 🎃 The Duchess joined the children in crafting and decorating spooky halloween biscuits for their buddy dogs! Hand Menu Interaction. The simplest trick to improve the accessibility of floating hand-attached UI panels for spatial interactions is to smooth their movement. It allows us to stabilize them and mitigate a hand tremor due to hand-tracking imperfection and/or physiological condition. (Interestingly, the visual stabilization helps reduce the physical tremor itself. I guess it normalizes the hand muscles/brain feedback loop when you target the interactables). Forty-six Queensland kindergarten children have been nominated as ‘non-binary’ by their parents this year. Kids do not think or question if they’ve been born in the wrong body unless it's been suggested to them. It is reprehensible that adults are imposing gender ideology on kids and inflicting them with gender distress. I spoke to Peta Credlin on Sky News Australia this week about this and my concerns about QLD kindergartens normalising gender ideology by asking for pronouns and gender identity on enrolment forms. #qldpol
