Shoutout to the work already building on SONIC. @yuewang314's Humanoid Everyday and UH-1, @MacSchwager's LEGS, and the work coming out of Masayoshi Tomizuka's group, including Sparse Diffusion Policy and human-robot collaboration. More on SONIC:

This is cool and looks like a major breakthrough! However much Media space so much hype on robotics and the reality is so much smaller Fanuc’s ultra-light cobots, Boston Dynamics’ serviceable Atlas, and NVIDIA’s Cosmos world models. Chinese have Scalability from fewer parts, five suppliers—Estun, Inovance, Siasun, EFORT and GSK—each shipped >10,000 units.

@ScienceMagazine Very good for making robots and AIs, and for a more natural feel.

@ScienceMagazine This is such an awesome extension!

@ScienceMagazine Wait this is actually so cool 😭 robotics is becoming such a huge part of AI. I think companies with the strongest tech ecosystem are gonna have such a big advantage when this really takes off.

As a Chinese, my remarks are as follows: As long as we don't sell the country's products, there is no such thing as an impossible trade, because we also have to live on. How can we keep up with the times without money in this world? I am not willing to be ordinary, and I am not willing to be restricted. I hope to work with the people of all countries on the premise of not selling national interests. Make active efforts and unremitting exploration to develop this turbulent international situation! If I am a businessman: the first thing I consider is whether this project can be successfully implemented, the premise of maximizing profits is not to give up our own national interests and cooperate and win-win as much as possible. This kind of cooperative relationship may be further improved. I still hope to cooperate and communicate with friends from all over the world. We should not take restrictions for granted. We should work hard to innovate and push scientific and technological innovation to a wider world. This is my personal idea and attitude. I hope to make better partners and become mutually trusted cooperation partners。!

@ScienceMagazine Hey congratulations, trillion dollar company endless resources, you build something most Devs surpass, sick of the bs

@ScienceMagazine Advances like SONIC are helping humanoid robots move more naturally and reliably. Scalable whole-body motion control is a key step toward deploying humanoids in real-world environments. 🤖

@ScienceMagazine its but we need to implement some

@ScienceMagazine congratulations to the team

@ScienceMagazine 3 fingers for now

@ScienceMagazine 🔥🔥🔥

@ScienceMagazine Easy thing to miss: every real-robot result here runs on a Unitree G1, which starts around $13.5K on Unitree's own page. A 23-joint humanoid you can just order. Anyone actually running a G1 — does the tracking hold up once there's load in the arms?

@ScienceMagazine Congrats to the team! At this rate the robots are gonna have better balance than me after one coffee too many.

@ScienceMagazine Remote controlled all of them

@ScienceMagazine SONIC scales motion tracking. our protocol scales learned skill transfer.

@ScienceMagazine Advances in whole-body control are a big step toward robots that can operate more effectively in complex, real-world environments.

@ScienceMagazine Remote controlled all of them ...prove its not 🤣

@ScienceMagazine Woop woop

@ScienceMagazine Transparent objects on that bench are going to be rough for the vision pipeline. Depth sensors still struggle with clear plastic and glass.

@ScienceMagazine Insane !!

@ScienceMagazine @grok
