Holy crosswind Batman! Yes, you saw that right — the B-52 lands fully crabbed into the crosswind. Most airplanes crab, then kick to a slip just before touchdown. The BUFF rotates the main gear to align with the runway and rides the crab all the way down. It’s a bit disconcerting the first time you’re looking out a side window with the cockpit way off the centerline. It grows on you after a while. And the de-crab on taxi feels downright weird. Most of the time I was in the back with no windows and never noticed. The few times I sat in the IP jump seat and watched it happen were eye-opening. 👀 Who thinks they could do it?

Runway 09 into London City ✈️ Definitely one of the most unique approaches in commercial aviation. Instead of the standard 3 degree glide path, London City requires a 5.5 degree steep approach straight into the middle of the city, bringing you incredibly low over the buildings during final approach!!✈️ On the Embraer we use a dedicated steep approach mode specifically designed for London City operations. Once activated, the aircraft deploys the spoilers in flight to help maintain the steeper descent profile. It’s a mode we only use for LCY operations, which makes every approach into this airport feel special in its own way. Combined with the short runway, surrounding buildings and often tricky weather conditions, London City landings are captain-only operations. During this approach I’m acting as Pilot Monitoring while the captain flies the aircraft and performs the landing. When the Nose Gear Never Came Down! ✈️The crew of this Boeing 727 tried extending the Nose Gear but did not receive a down and locked indication, leaving them with only one option, to perform a controlled nose gear-up landing! The pilots executed a very smooth landing, maintaining the aircraft on its main wheels before the nose gradually settled onto the runway, bringing the Jet safely to a stop. Incredible Skills by the crew 🔥

A tense ATC recording is making rounds after a pilot forcefully rejected an assigned runway, warning air traffic control he would declare an emergency if unable to land on his preferred option. In the audio, the pilot states: “We can’t land on two two… if you don’t get us to runway three one right, we’re gonna declare emergency.” When the request wasn’t immediately approved, the crew followed through: “We’re declaring emergency. He could have ejected immediately. He didn’t. On May 14, 2009, RAF Harrier GR9A ZG478 crashed during landing at Kandahar. The approach was too steep and the jet struck the runway hard. Its landing gear collapsed, sending the Harrier into a 4,000-foot belly slide as its fuel, weapons and pods caught fire. But the pilot stayed with the burning aircraft. Why? Four aircraft were waiting on the runway. He steered the crippled Harrier away from them before ejecting as flames reached the cockpit. He survived with minor injuries. The Harrier was destroyed. This video has been doing the rounds today. Many saying the landing was scary and the pilot would be getting a coffee-less chat with their Chief Pilot. None of these people know what they’re talking about!! High winged aircraft use a different crosswind landing technique when compared to other airliners. They fly using a ‘wing down’ technique and not one where the aircraft flies nose into wind. This technique means that often the upwind wing is lower than downwind, and the upwind main gear often touches down first. In my view, and I’ve done a few of these, this is a text book wing down landing. Good job. #aviation #pilotlife #pilot #FactsNotClickbait

Remember the C-130 crash in Colombia a month ago and killed 24 and left 43 injured? News reports indicated the pilots were arrested after the preliminary report came out. Given the outcome, the preliminary report pointed to pilot actions, along with runway conditions and weather, underlining there were no mechanical issues with the aircraft. Key findings from the investigation include: No mechanical failures contributed to the accident. The aircraft departed Viru Viru bound for El Alto. Weather conditions at the destination deteriorated en route, with storms and hail reported, but the crew received no weather updates. On arrival at El Alto, the crew was cleared to land on runway 10. Due to convective activity on that runway, they opted to approach runway 28 instead. Runway 28 is located at 13,300 ft elevation, measures 4,000 m in length, and has a negative gradient of 1.55%. METAR data indicated winds between 050°/10 kt and 360°/08 kt. According to the Investigators, the approach was conducted above the glide slope and at excessive speed. The aircraft touched down on the nose gear only, approximately 1,200 m beyond the threshold. Without compression of the main landing gear struts, the brakes and thrust reversers remained unavailable. An E145 Jet made a bad landing yesterday which lead to the destruction of the plane, everyone got off safely, but a passenger posted video showing the landing and evacuation. Must take some resolve to just keep recording as the plane is scraping along the runway on fire. Looks like the plane touched down short of the runway, a situation that was likely incompatible with keeping the landing gear attached.
