Dylan Patel says “the word AGI has no meaning anymore.” The real race is for superintelligence and the people who can build it. Ilya saw it first. So he started Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI). Zuck tried to acquire it. He also made moves on Thinking Machines and Perplexity—reportedly. He even offered $1B for a single OpenAI researcher. What are you even buying at that point?

Elon Musk: The robots are not the scary part. The scary part is AGI. “The robots are not the scary part. The scary part is AGI, digital superintelligence that far exceeds human intelligence. If there's a digital superintelligence that is just vastly smarter than the smartest human, we could lose control of it, and then it could do something bad. Potentially. These things are just probabilities; they're not certainties. It's not the robots; it's the digital superintelligence to be concerned about.” Source: Interview with The Babylon Bee, December 22, 2021

We ask AGI to create a perfect world. AGI kills everyone. No people. No problems. Perfect. We add a rule: don't kill anyone. AGI kills everyone anyway. Because if everyone is dead no one can stop it. This is not a joke. This is how a computer thinks. This is how God thinks. And the people building it know this. That's why they're building bunkers.

Journalist Karen Hao says AGI is not scientifically grounded; it's a quasi-religious movement in Silicon Valley Since we still don't agree on what human intelligence is, companies like OpenAI can shape the definition of AI to suit their needs "the belief that AGI is coming soon is faith, not evidence"

I don't know what Sam Altman saw internally at OpenAI, but it seems that, according to their definition, AGI is here, and superintelligence is incredibly close. AI models that independently conduct scientific research and find novel solutions are already here, and their internal model appears to surpass everything seen before.

I absolutely love how Alex pressed Sam on whether OpenAI thinks they’ve already hit AGI internally, and what he actually considers the difference between AGI and ASI. Sam’s answer was basically that declaring AGI doesn’t really mean anything anymore, because every lab and every person uses a different definition. He makes the good point that if you went back to 2020 and showed people a system that could code, help start a company, discover new science and give you a 20 minute win across basically every part of your life, most people probably would’ve called that AGI. I personally still don’t think we’ve hit it, but I agree with his broader point that treating AGI like some single finish line is becoming increasingly meaningless. The way he describes ASI is exactly how I would want him to, AGI is basically a milestone somewhere on the curve, while superintelligence is this continuous ramp of increasing capability that may never really have a final “we won” moment. And importantly, Sam says he sees no sign that this exponential capability curve is slowing down. A few quotes I liked as well: “We’re building AI, but it’s a thing you’re always building. It’s not an end state anymore.” “I don’t want to say we’ve declared victory on the AGI point and moved on.” “The important part of any of this is not any milestone, any term. It’s that we are on this exponential of increasing capabilities and potential.”

Geoffrey Hinton says AGI is a silly term because intelligence is not one-dimensional AI will be jagged compared to humans: far better than us at some tasks, still weaker at others Superintelligence is a clearer idea It means AI becomes better than humans at almost every intellectual task we do, and it's coming

Greg Brockman on AGI arriving quietly and unevenly: "I think that AGI has turned out to be less of a point in time and more of this sort of fuzzy spectrum. And for me, Astra has really hit something that I'm like, 'Okay, I think this is pretty reasonable to call it AGI.'" "With its computer use capabilities, you really can ask it to do long-lived tasks, and it'll just do it. We've seen it run coherently for 24 hours to go accomplish tasks that I think are quite amazing and across a wide variety of domains." "It still is jagged... It's the first time it's not slop writing. But it's not great writing. There are a number of areas where I feel like we just need to polish it a little bit, and it would be fantastic. It's just not quite there." "What people are finding is that it is so capable across such a wide variety of tasks, that it is accelerative, it is empowering, and it's something that I think we've never really seen a model that's been a jump like this." Greg Brockman

Why does every woman want to imitate black people and h*mosexuals now? It's disgusting. "But I just can't do it anymore with the faces. I don't know what that is. I don't know what you call it. I don't know who... people are saying Black. It's a Black thing."

OpenAI President just said that we already hit AGI: "Astra has really hit something that I'm like, okay, I think this is pretty reasonable to call it AGI." his proof is wild, he says they've watched it run on its own, coherently, for 24 hours straight to finish real tasks across totally different domains. not a demo, not a benchmark, an AI working unsupervised for a full day and actually getting things done. a year ago "AGI" was a someday word, now the president of OpenAI is using it in the present tense and we're already talking about slowing it down.

Stephen A. Smith to Andraya Carter: "I am telling you right now you are going to be underpaid for the rest of what I believe will be an illustrious career unless you get your mind right about that marketing. It matters." Andraya: "I hear you, Stephen A. But I will not sacrifice my basketball knowledge and my integrity in terms of the game for marketing. My marketing is doing just fine."

AGI might be the culmination of human purpose. Lomez: "I've been trying to talk myself out of the inevitability of AGI for a while. It's not even my preference, but that doesn't matter." "There's a teleology of humanness that almost is designed to produce AGI. We're fulfilling almost some kind of Calvinist, religious project." "This is the culmination of human intelligence and ingenuity. I just don't see any way around that." "There's something beautiful about it. It fits. There's some harmony in the idea that humans are designed to do this... to produce an intelligence greater than itself."

NEW: Dem Senator Jacky Rosen fumes and pulls down her name plate after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth refused to apologize for calling people ‘Pharisees.’ Rosen: “Words matter! It's a historically hurtful term. Why do you continue to use it, and what actions are you taking…?” Hegseth: “I feel like it's a pretty accurate term for folks who don't see the plank in their own eye…” Rosen: “I expect anyone who is in leadership in our country to be respectful and use respectful terms and not be an antisemite!”
