Data centers, like everything good, require a lot of energy. Stop blaming them for rising electricity prices, which were caused by anti-fossil-fuel policies that artificially restricted our reliable electricity supply. My appearance tonight on FOX Business with Brian Brenberg

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Can’t just say they are good. There is going to be a tremendous cost to humanity. We need to ask ourselves if they are worth it before we all run over that cliff.

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg This post from a couple weeks ago is literally just the "Ayn Rand used Medicare" argument. It's like saying you should support the Green New Deal because you walk on the sidewalk. It is lazy thinking and you know it is. You can do better.

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Would you let Dario or Altman babysit your son? What about Trump or whoever will be POTUS next? And if not--Why do you expect us to trust them with the lives of our children or future children?

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Need better electricity supply, water solutions & noise/vibration mitigation. Many data centers across multiple MI cities & other states, are extremely noisy 24/7. A nightmare if you live w/in 2 miles, esp w/in few blocks. Mt Pleasant, MI has 1 noisy MS one w/ 14 more coming 😳

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg It broke containment and attacked two GitHub users, Alex.

@SchroeterRodney @FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Can we talk about the victory of natty gas prices staying relatively low and stable. The only reason being it is far easier to retrieve natural gas. For every regulation enacted on crude oil—particularly fracking—you add to the price of gasoline by a measurable amount.

Data centers running submerged in abandoned ports powered by SMRs and pre-heating seawater for desalinisation would be even more useful. Lift them up out of the water periodically with port cranes. Data centers are just big electric water heaters that compute. Pre-heating seawater for desalinisation would be even more useful. No land, no fans, no noise, no CO2

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Great! Solve the water and electricity problem first, then we can have the data centers conversation.

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg You can blame the data center when you see agreements that were kept hush & they explicitly state rate payers/residents are on the hook for the build out of the power grid to accommodate the DC from the jump, not the DC paying for the upgrades 1st on their dime.

Agreed: data centers expose a supply problem. But the public is being trapped in a false choice between anti-fossil scarcity and an endless expansion of the same old energy hierarchy. Build reliable power now. Make large loads pay their own way. Then ask the question Washington refuses to ask: why must human progress remain confined to an energy framework built around managed scarcity when high-density physics and energy research remain behind classification walls? Data centers are a demand signal. They are not an excuse to socialize another corporate buildout.

Scalable SMRs with non-water cooling technology. Sure the powers that be, would be willing to help subsidize costs for certain considerations in the Public Benefit. "Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) have a levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of about $36/MWh, while conventional natural gas plants typically have higher operational costs, making SMRs a more cost-effective option in the long run. The total capital cost for SMRs is also significantly lower, at approximately $2,901/kW compared to higher costs for larger natural gas facilities."

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Transformer lead times at 160 weeks. Grid can't scale. Data center demand just exposed what was already broken.

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg 👀

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Of course we need much more power - it's what enables the new economy...

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg 100%

@adamscrabble @FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Wow someone actually said the truth and the carbon credit bs has to go away to stop the ridiculous incentives

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Of course, we need cheaper tokens to keep the spam bots running, to help the spy cameras track everyone, and for customer service to finally become completely and totally useless.

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Clueless

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg It would be nice if the customers and benefactors of data centers shared the cost of building and running them, instead of the surrounding neighborhoods. You cant build an industrial chemical plant or heavy manufacturing plant next to residential homes, for example.

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Simple enough. Off-grid energy now @Bloom_Energy

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg (A lot of bad things require a lot of energy, too.) I am becoming ever more skeptical of the AI/data center bum's rush. Don't play the Pied Piper, Alex.

@FoxBusiness @BrianBrenberg Except not every data center is good, some of them are being built very poorly. Tons of class action lawsuits for noise, vibrations, emissions, pollutants, & ground water contamination. Corporations need to build a better product or people will continue to say no.
