Data often lie on a low-dimensional manifold embedded in a high-dimensional space. But these manifolds are often highly non-linear, making linear dimensionality reduction methods like PCA insufficient. This has motivated the development of non-linear dimensionality reduction.

Here we have the iPhone 13 at 60hz vs S23 Ultra at 120hz. Notice the S23 Ultra has smoother transitions but the animations are bad because of it being non-linear. There's a difference between refresh rate and animations. Sure iPhone looked smooth because of the animations, but the S23 Ultra had more frames in the animations because of the higher refresh rate. But then Samsung messed up with its linear animations. Hopefully, with one UI 6, we see the non-linear animations coupled with 120hz.
