🌕 Tested on Earth. Bound for the Moon. The BE-7 engine for our Blue Moon MK1 lunar lander just completed acceptance testing. Two 290-second tests exposed the engine to its full range of thrust and mixture ratios to verify engine performance. The engine is now off to Florida for integration with MK1.

Since the initial design of the modular FLEX rover, Astrolab has focused on developing a mobility solution to meet the near- and long-term needs of the lunar economy. Use cases include everything from transporting large payloads on the lunar surface in lander-agnostic containers to deploying essential lunar infrastructure. Activities like rolling out cables are crucial for establishing and connecting alternative power sources on the Moon. For example, cable roll-out is key in the deployment and operations of fission power systems and other critical infrastructure. Early in rover development, we performed field tests of custom payloads that could support power and comms infrastructure, collect samples, and facilitate the use of lunar resources. These tests informed the development of our design to ensure FLEX is as “flexible” as possible.

Our #GhostRiders completed another lunar orbit maneuver with a 3 minute, 18 second burn early this morning. This maneuver moved the lander from a high elliptical orbit to a much lower elliptical orbit around the Moon. Shortly after the burn, Blue Ghost captured incredible footage of the Moon's far side, about 120 km above the surface. In this orbit, the team will experience planned rolling comms blackouts as Blue Ghost goes around the far side of the Moon. When on the near side, the team will continue to downlink data and finalize the plan for our next maneuver that will get Blue Ghost even closer to the lunar surface and keep us right on track for landing on March 2. #BGM1

🇺🇸Artemis II launched yesterday, sending four astronauts on the first crewed mission to the Moon in more than 50 years. The crew has already spent a full day in space and completed early milestones, including manually piloting the Orion spacecraft. Today they will perform the critical trans-lunar injection burn that will send them on their path toward the Moon. We’ve gone critical. At 12:20 am on July 4th, Aalo sustained a controlled fission chain reaction for the first time. We have officially surpassed the goal of President Trump’s Executive Order 14301, achieving 4 advanced nuclear reactor criticalities by America’s 250th birthday. This is a zero-power criticality to validate our supply chain, reactor physics and control systems for our 10 MWe full-powered reactor, the Aalo-X, targeting power operations next year. Everything was built at full scale: fuel, moderator, control systems, etc., so we understand system performance at its commercial scope. That also meant tackling four of the most difficult things in nuclear with this criticality milestone: ✅ Ground-up construction of our reactor facility ✅ Manufacturing the reactor in our factory and shipping them by road ✅ Assembling our own fuel assemblies using commercial UO2 ✅ Standing up training, safety, and operational programs to become our own nuclear operator I am proud to say we have accomplished all four goals, along with achieving criticality. The reactor building was constructed in 36 days and construction to criticality was achieved in under 8 months. That’s the fastest nuclear build in the last 80 years. A massive congratulations to the Aalo Atomics team and our partners. Many thanks to Idaho National Laboratory, the DOE-Idaho Operations Office, and the Office of Nuclear Energy for their immense support in enabling this milestone and dedicated to the American nuclear resurgence.

UP driver Craig Coker hit Laguna Seca in the 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance for the first time for testing and baseline lap times as we continue to develop for the platform. We are very pleased with the results. Craig ran a 1:35.07 on DOT street tires in the new car, compared to his best lap on the previous gen Model 3, which was 1:35.7 and that was with a full Ascension-R build and on slicks. More than 1/2 second faster in the new car with no aero mods, less tire, full interior, and using factory Track Mode with no 3rd party boxes. This is a true representation of a modded daily driver with the factory drivetrain/battery warranty intact. Can’t wait to go back and drop that time even further!
