Small tip: when an interaction animates 2 or more properties (like width and translate Y for this search bar), consider offsetting the timing and curves for each to get a more natural feel. Here, width starts narrowing first, and translate Y follows about 140 ms later. Which also helps the search bar move up without overlapping with the buttons.

Engineers often believe that as long as a feature exists, moves, or looks different, users will appreciate it. Users, however, care about something much simpler: whether the experience feels natural, refined, and intuitive. Great user experience is never created by stacking options. It is created by coherence and emotional consistency. Samsung’s recent update to Lock Star is a clear example. The new version introduces unlock animations that appear to add playfulness, yet the real experience feels disappointing. Many of these animations come across as childish, low level, poorly connected, and mechanically rigid. They feel closer to children’s UI effects than something designed for Samsung’s broad premium user base. The issue is not the presence of animations themselves. The problem lies in the mindset behind them. These effects are clearly driven by implementation logic rather than user perception. The assumption seems to be that adding visual flair automatically creates delight, while ignoring rhythm, emotional tone, and aesthetic maturity. They interrupt the user's context by pulling them into a separate layer just to confirm an action. On top of that, these modal typically lack a clear visual or spatial association with the element being deleted. The positioning feels arbitrary—detached from the target item—which can create hesitation or uncertainty for the user. To solve these issues, I designed a contextual delete confirmation that appears directly beneath the target element. Unlike traditional modals that pull users out of the flow and feel disconnected from the action they’re confirming, this approach keeps everything in context. By anchoring the confirmation to the element itself, it reinforces the association and reduces cognitive load—users instantly understand what they’re about to delete without losing their place or momentum.

Customers can enter the unique tax or business info they need, see what they paid in localized currency along with any discounts, and download a PDF. Thankfully Stripe makes this all fairly easy. It's something only a fraction of users see, but I think great design is sometimes about facilitating all of the edge cases to keep accounting and tax departments happy worldwide!$

A childless life is one of the saddest lives a person can live. It’s sad bc you miss out on one of the greatest forms of happiness a human can ever experience. This is the kind of joy that doesn’t come from $, status, or freedom. Rather, this pure joy comes from loving someone more than yourself. And also there’s a deeper thing of not having kids. Your story, your values, your genetics, all the things that make you unique, don’t get carried forward. Having kids is a bet on the future. It’s like saying, I think tomorrow is worth investing in. But when you choose not to, you’re opting out of the future you could’ve helped shape. This is the kind of happiness, which imo is the highest level of happiness a human can feel, that only exists when you have kids. Being human is awesome. Make more beautiful humans. Have kids. You will never feel ready, and I promise, you won’t regret it.
