Open-source dexterous hands with fingertip sensors! 🪬 ORCA Dexterity just released three dexterous hand models. Their mission: is to democratize robotic hand dexterity. They're sharing progress on exceptional, low-cost hardware and a software layer from low-level control to robotic hand learning. This is the open-source approach to dexterous manipulation. It has 83 taxels per finger with 0.1 N force detection which pretty is impressive for an open-source design. Tactile sensing is critical for dexterous manipulation, knowing contact forces enables gentle grasping, slip detection, and force-controlled assembly. Also 700g weight for the lite version makes it practical for mounting on robot arms without exceeding payload limits. Lower weight means faster movements and lower torque requirements. Can a dexterous hand still function after being run over by a 2-ton car? The dexterous hand is the most expensive component of a humanoid robot, and if it breaks, the task is interrupted. Hangzhou BrainCo conducted a rigorous test on its latest dexterous hand, Revo2: it was run over by a nearly 2-ton Volvo car, dropped from a height of 5m, dropped 30m, and subjected to forceful impacts from a Unitree G1 robot. It still managed to maintain a stable grip and continue operating. Revo2 is BrainCo's next-generation dexterous/bionic hand, released last year. yes, a human-robot hybrid hand. It's very light, only 383g, 20kg payload,capable of precision manipulation down to 0.1mm (such as threading a needle), and possesses multi-dimensional tactile perception (hardness, texture, direction, proximity, etc.). This test also demonstrates that after achieving breakthroughs in performance, a dexterous hand also needs to be extremely durable and able to function under extreme environmental pressures.

Synchronize Dual Hands for Physics-Based Dexterous Guitar Playing discuss: We present a novel approach to synthesize dexterous motions for physically simulated hands in tasks that require coordination between the control of two hands with high temporal precision. Instead of directly learning a joint policy to control two hands, our approach performs bimanual control through cooperative learning where each hand is treated as an individual agent. The individual policies for each hand are first trained separately, and then synchronized through latent space manipulation in a centralized environment to serve as a joint policy for two-hand control. By doing so, we avoid directly performing policy learning in the joint state-action space of two hands with higher dimensions, greatly improving the overall training efficiency. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in the challenging guitar-playing task. The virtual guitarist trained by our approach can synthesize motions from unstructured reference data of general guitar-playing practice motions, and accurately play diverse rhythms with complex chord pressing and string picking patterns based on the input guitar tabs that do not exist in the references. Along with this paper, we provide the motion capture data that we collected as the reference for policy training.
