7b. To quickly select tips of branches select one of the end vertices - > select -> select similar -> amount of connecting edges. Then deselect the trunk vert and ctrl a, drag to make is smaller :)

Extra tip! You can use the decimate modifier set to planar to remove unwanted loops that the skin modifier creates. Helps a lot when you have long straight branches that get tons of extra unwanted loops
