In 40+ years of watching baseball, I have never seen anything quite like that.

The player caused this, and it doesn’t matter if it was intentional or unintentional. Once he touched the ball, it can’t be a ground rule double. It’s similar to when a ball hits an outfielder and goes over the fence.

I was thinking ground rule double until I considered that it was the fielder who caused it. The homer should stand. Got to.

Take note, clubs and managers: Your home-field ground rules now should cover balls getting lodged into the turf. I guess by default if the other outfield had waved his arms over his head to indicate the lodged ball as if it got wedged under padding or lost in Wrigley Ivy then he could have limited it to a double, but without that signal umps can't do anything after the fact

I bet that bruise is going to be a banger. Shoving a baseball into the dirt level with the ground with your leg can't feel good.

A lodged ball is a ball is considered lodged if, in the judgment of the umpire, the natural trajectory of the flight of the ball is interrupted long enough to affect further play. Since the player caused the ball to become lodged, the call was correct.

Kid must be a tank he landed on that ball on his butt cheeks and sent it to earth’s core.

OBR may have a different ruling, but in NCAA this is a lodged ball and is a ground rule double.

Don't see how that could happen with just the players weight. Probably a buried sprinkler head there and the ball was forced down the access hole.
