Dr. Barbara O'Neill reveals 3 surprising "shocks" that stimulate new brain cell growth in the hippocampus: 1. Fasting — Try breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, then an 18-hour fast until the next morning. 2. Cold exposure — Finish every hot shower with a quick cold blast...

I like Barbara!! Hormetic stress (fasting, cold, HIIT) is the ultimate mechanical trigger for BDNF. But BDNF is just the architect; it sends the signal to build. If the brain's micro-circulation is blocked or it lacks the raw materials, that signal falls flat. To actually materialize that new brain cell growth, you have to prep the neural Terrain: Open the delivery routes: Botanical vasodilators like Rosemary and Ginkgo restore micro-circulation deep in the capillaries so oxygen actually reaches the hippocampus. Provide the building blocks: Pair BDNF with NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) by using dual-extracted Lion's Mane and Brahmi. This forces astrocytes to repair the insulating myelin sheaths. Switch the fuel: A brain that needs to heal cannot run on chronic glucose. Switch to animal fats (ketones) to bypass neural insulin resistance entirely. Shock the system to send the signal, but use botanical synergy to actually build the tissue. 🌿🧠🛡️

Above is part of the protocol to heal most dis-ease, a lot of harm caused by Merck, I worked for them, we used to say “we at Merck donate (Mectizan) ivermectin to the 3rd world to heal human river blindness” (began 1987). Left Merck to help people beat: ALS,terminal cancer, autism, Parkinson’s, diabetes1, more often dis-ease by CORPORATE CHEMICALs aka “vaccines” &MRI contrast GADOLINIUM:

Exercise, especially interval training, is known to support brain health and increase BDNF. The effects of fasting and cold exposure on brain health are still being explored.

Fasting and HIIT I’ve been doing for several decades. The cold exposure shower shock, I tried, but not for me. I’ll just have to settle for 2 of the 3.

These 3 shocks = free neurogenesis. Already on cold + fasting. Who's joining?

As soon as I wake up, ending my 18 hour fast, I rush outside and sprint uphill as fast as I can while my wife soaks me with ice cold water from our hose.

BDNF does increase with things like exercise and fasting but do these actually create meaningful new neurons in adult humans, or are most neurogenesis findings still coming from animal studies?

Knock off the negative self talk! Changing the words you say to yourself literally rebuild your brain in ways that help you or hurt you. Here's the science of one of the words you say to yourself matter: When you use criticizing language in your internal voice, your brain picks up on that and turns on the parts that are related to defending you from physical danger. Your brain hears your mind saying something harmful, and assumes that you're under attack. This affects your physiology, keeps you in a fight or flight response, and elevates your blood pressure and cortisol levels. In other words, when you attack yourself internally, your body gets the message and you literally feel like you're at war. On the other hand, research shows that when you use compassionate language to yourself, you don't magically make all your problems go away. What happens is that your brain area is related to problem-solving, calmness, and feeling hopeful, come alive. This set the filters in your reticular activating system to begin to look for possibility and not danger. The first commandment of self brain surgery is that I must relentlessly refuse to participate in my own demise. Using harmful words to yourself is literally committing malpractice against your own brain and your own life. So, and I say this with love, knock it off. Be kind to yourself. In a world full of difficulties, you deserve at least one ally. And your brain needs to hear encouraging language so I can do a better job of showing you a path forward instead of keeping you stuck. Jeremiah 29:11 says that God has a plan to give you hope and the future. Don't hinder his ability to do that by blocking your brain from being able to see what might already be there. Send this to a friend who needs an ally. Save this for the next time you find yourself feeling afraid. And follow me for connections between neuroscience and scripture every day that will help you flourish in your life. Click the link in my bio to learn more about my New York Times. Today, I’m going to give you ten years of therapy in two minutes. I'm a brain surgeon, and I'm gonna show you how to make rapid progress in healing the wounds you’ve been carrying; the ones from childhood, from broken relationships, from things said that can’t be unsaid, and from things done that can’t be undone. Let's scrub in and get it done. Here's a Fact: Your Wound Lives in Your Brain, But Your Healing Lives in Your Mind When something hurts you, your brain stores it. The sights, the sounds, the sting of the words, the shape of the moment. That storage is real and physical. But here’s where the hope of healing lies: your brain doesn’t get the final vote on what that memory means to you. Your mind does. And your mind is not the same thing as your brain. Neuroscience nugget: Emotional memories get encoded in circuits involving the amygdala and hippocampus, but each time you recall a memory, it becomes temporarily unstable and gets rewritten via a process called reconsolidation. That means every time you revisit a wound, you have a fresh chance to change how it’s stored. Self-Brain Surgery Procedure: The next time an old wound surfaces, don’t just relive it. Instead, reframe it while it’s “open.” Ask: What is the truest, most redemptive way to understand this moment now? Speak that new understanding out loud before you let the memory close back up. Scripture: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3, NIV This is self-brain surgery. Hard and holy work. Follow me to connect neuroscience and scripture every day. Save this to help when you need to heal. Share it with a friend who's hurting. I'm a brain surgeon, and I'm gonna show you how to operate your brain the way it's designed, to help you heal the wounds you’ve been carrying. This is part three, make sure you watch then other ones also. Let's scrub in and get it done. Naming the Wound Takes Away Its Power Vague pain feels bigger than specific pain. When you can’t name what happened or what you feel, your brain treats the wound like an unmapped threat, and it stays on alert, never resolving the danger signal. Neuroscience nugget: Studies on affect labeling show that putting a precise name to a painful feeling reduces activity in the amygdala and increases activity in the prefrontal cortex; the simple act of naming it calms the alarm. Self-Brain Surgery Procedure: Write one sentence naming exactly what happened and exactly what you felt with no exaggeration or minimizing. “When ___ happened, I felt ___.” Read it out loud. Notice how much smaller it feels once it has a name. Scripture: “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18, NIV This is self-brain surgery. Hard and holy work. Follow me to connect neuroscience and scripture every day. Save this to help when you need to heal. Share it with a friend who's hurting. Click the link in my bio to learn more about Self-Brain Surgery. (Note: I'm not a therapist, but I've done the work to heal after war, PTSD. and child loss. This series shows the things that helped me, but these are not medical or mental health advice for you. Talk to your therapist or provider if you're struggling) #selfbrainsurgery #neuroscience #neuroplasticity #grief #healing

I just built a self-improving second brain in Claude Code 🤯 A brain that runs your brand: every tool reads from it, it's wired to your live data, and it gets smarter every week. All running on the Claude Agent SDK. Perfect for DTC brands and agencies whose AI output sounds generic because every new chat starts from zero. If you're re-explaining your brand to AI every single time — re-pasting the voice guidelines, re-describing the customer you've described a hundred times, re-uploading the same positioning doc you uploaded yesterday, and still editing for an hour to strip out the generic phrasing... A brand second brain fixes the entire loop: → Build 3 foundation files once: brand DNA, voice, and customer → Every skill you create reads from them automatically → Wire in live data — your ad account, competitor ads, customer reviews → A weekly routine refreshes the brain with what's actually working → Every output comes back on-brand on the first pass No re-briefing AI on every chat. No hour of editing to undo generic phrasing. No brain that goes stale the week after you build it. What a second brain gives you: → The exact 3-file foundation that runs the whole system → The skill structure that makes every tool brand-aware by default → The live-data wiring that keeps it grounded in reality → The weekly self-improvement loop that keeps it sharp → The cold-start sequence to stand it all up from zero Built 100% in Claude Code. I put together the full playbook with the file structure, the wiring, and the exact setup. Want it for free? > Like this post > Comment "BRAIN" And I'll send it over (must be following so I can DM)

The Alzheimer's Shield is REAL. And it's being ignored. New research reveals a staggering 73% of Alzheimer's cases could be PREVENTED. The key? A powerful nutritional synergy that mainstream medicine is overlooking. Here's the game-changing discovery👇 1. The Brain Shrinkage Crisis Your brain is literally SHRINKING. Why? Omega-3 levels have crashed. These fats are so vital, the more Omega-3 you have, the more physical brain matter you have. It's the foundation of cognition. 2. The "SMASH" Protocol You can't reverse the trend without the right fuel. The solution? SMASH it: - Salmon - Mackerel - Anchovies - Sardines - Herring These oily fish are your brain's best defense. 3. The Critical Co-Factor You're Missing But here's the plot twist Omega-3s are NOT a solo act. Oxford University researchers made a landmark discovery: Omega-3s and B vitamins are an inseparable duo. One DOES NOT work without the other. B12, critical for brain health and found in meat/fish/eggs, is poorly absorbed as we age. Vegans are at extreme risk with ZERO natural B12. 4. The 73% Reduction Protocol The Oxford study gave B vitamins to people with pre-dementia. The results were explosive, but ONLY in those with sufficient Omega-3. In this group, brain shrinkage was slashed by 73% in just one year. Let that sink in. Alzheimer's is brain shrinkage. They found a way to stop it. The Bottom Line: You must address BOTH. - No Omega-3? Your B vitamins can't do their job. - No B Vitamins? Your Omega-3 is ineffective. This is the powerful, synergistic shield your brain needs. It's not just about one pill or one food. It's about the alliance. Share this vital information. It could save a mind.

Your brain doesn’t know what time it is. Every time you replay that conversation from last year, that mistake from last month, that moment you wish you could take back from yesterday, your brain treats it like it’s happening right now. Same stress chemicals. Same alarm bells. You’re not remembering it. You’re reliving it, on a loop you built yourself. That's because of two things: your brain doesn't know the difference between what's really happening and what you're just imagining, and neuroplasticity means that your brain automates things that you think about and turns them into programs that it runs without you having to think about them next time. So, the more you rehearse something from the past or something you're just imagining, the more your brain builds out a reality as if that thing is still here right now. The ninth Commandment of self brain surgery is, "I must believe that what I'm doing I'm getting better at." That means if you're doing things with your mind that are making your brain better at living in the past or worrying about imaginary outcomes, you're getting better at feeling worse. So knock it off. Here’s the shift: you can’t edit the past, but you can stop rehearsing it. Every replay is a rehearsal, and your brain gets better at whatever you rehearse. Let's make neuroplasticity work for us and not against us. We call that self-brain surgery. It's not easy at first, it's hard and holy work. But remember, you get better at whatever you repeatedly do Philippians 3:13 says it like this: forget what lies behind and strain towards what lies ahead. Not denying it happened, but refusing to keep performing it. There's better stuff in the future, but not if you keep building a brain that lives in the past. Follow me to connect neuroscience and scripture every day. Save this for the next time your mind hits replay. Share it with someone stuck on a loop. Ray Peat on diabetes, cortisol, sugar, and protein: "I saw that several of the amino acids in proteins are powerful insulin stimulants. When you eat protein by itself, you stimulate insulin secretion, which is needed to metabolize the amino acids. In reaction to the insulin, your liver has to put out glucose to keep your blood sugar going, so your brain, blood cells, kidneys, and so on can keep working. If your liver is somewhat low on glycogen, then every time you eat protein and have an insulin secretion, your body secretes a compensating amount of cortisol to bring your blood sugar back up. However, the cortisol brings your blood sugar up at the expense of protein. Cortisol first breaks down tissues like the thymus gland, immune cells, and muscles. If you eat lots of protein, despite the high cortisol, you can maintain a balance by replacing your muscles and thymus gland, but you are running on constantly high cortisol secretion. In my previous interest in diabetes, I saw that doctors often neglected to measure hormones related to blood sugar when prescribing insulin. Doctors would call a person diabetic and say they needed to take insulin for life. But by testing cortisol in some of these individuals, we saw that many so-called diabetics just had very high cortisol. Sugar happens to be the best thing for lowering cortisol to normal. Since high cortisol can give the impression of diabetes by causing high blood sugar, you get the unexpected effect of lowering cortisol when you eat sugar. Some of these people had a very quick recovery from their so-called diabetes."
