Over that same week, due to the easing of sanctions, Russia increased its crude oil sales to finance its war. Revenues give Russia a sense of impunity and the ability to continue the war. I am grateful to Canada for its new package of sanctions against more than 160 entities linked to Russia’s shadow fleet. Today, during our meeting with Mark Carney, we discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. And it is important that such decisions are being made. We also discussed formats of defense cooperation, Canada’s participation in financing the production of Ukrainian drones under the Danish model, and cooperation in the energy sector. Importantly, Canada will continue to provide Ukraine with energy support and assistance in recovery. Head of Russia is clearly taking advantage of the moment while the world is almost entirely focused on the prospect of establishing peace in the Middle East. Most countries, all key leaders, have their attention fixed on what is happening there. And this is truly a good opportunity to achieve real peace in that region after so many victims. And this is a new low in Russian depravity – to intensify terrorist strikes at a moment like this, hitting the very lives of our people. Just last night alone, nearly 500 drones were launched in multiple waves, about 200 of them “shaheds,” also 32 missiles, mostly ballistic ones. Only one response can be given to this: more strength, more air defenses to protect our critical infrastructure, and increased pressure on Russia so that they are truly held accountable for everything they do. Sanctions must be tightened – and we are discussing it with partners – and Russian assets must be fully used to strengthen our defense and ensure recovery.

The continued easing of sanctions against Russia does not reflect the real situation in the war or in diplomacy and fuels the Russian leadership’s illusion that they can continue the war. This week alone, the Russians have launched over 2,360 attack drones, more than 1,320 guided aerial bombs, and nearly 60 missiles of various types at our cities and communities. Every dollar paid for Russian oil is money for the war. More than 110 tankers from Moscow’s shadow fleet are currently at sea. On board are over 12 million tons of Russian oil, which, due to the easing of sanctions, can once again be sold without consequences. That is $10 billion – a resource that is directly converted into new strikes against Ukraine. That is why it is important that Russian tankers are stopped, not allowed to deliver oil to ports. The aggressor’s oil exports must decrease, and Ukraine’s long-range sanctions continue to work toward that goal. I am grateful to every one of our warriors for their precision, and I thank all partners who are helping to increase pressure on Russia for this war.
