During these weeks, while the UN General Assembly was taking place, Russia literally used every day, every hour to strike Ukraine. Treacherous strikes. And this is what defines Russia – what they do, not what they say or send out as signals around the world. They have spurned all... genuine peace proposals and deserve truly tough pressure. This week we expect decisions from Europe on such pressure – at the very least, a new sanctions package, the 19th. It is especially important that sanctions hit painfully at Russia’s energy trade and the entire infrastructure of its tanker fleet. Moreover, intelligence now indicates that the Russians are using tankers to launch and operate drones against European countries. This is yet more evidence why the Baltic Sea and other seas must be closed to Russian tankers – at the very least to the shadow fleet. We also count on strong steps from the United States. Over the past week, Russia launched nearly 1,550 attack drones against Ukraine, more than 1,260 guided aerial bombs, and two missiles. Over that same week, due to the easing of sanctions, Russia increased its crude oil sales to finance its war. Revenues give Russia a sense of impunity and the ability to continue the war. That is why pressure must continue and sanctions must work. Russia’s shadow fleet must not feel safe in European waters or anywhere else. Tankers that serve the war budget can and must be stopped and blocked, not just let go. I thank every leader who makes such decisions. This is what brings a dignified peace closer.

Today, I took part in the work with our friends – the European countries participating in the Joint Expeditionary Force format – the UK, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Ukraine – united. We’re working together to achieve a ceasefire – one that is solid and lasting, for at least 30 days. Ukraine is ready. I spoke with President Trump yesterday. Our European friends also spoke with him. We’re all on the same page: there must be a full ceasefire. And if Russia continues to drag out the war, we will need stronger sanctions – especially if they violate the ceasefire once it is in place. The U.S. and Europe know what hurts Russia most – what truly pressures Moscow to consider peace and to stop this war. We are uniting as many countries as possible to ensure this pressure – pressure for the sake of peace – is effective.

It is crucial to keep pressuring Putin’s shadow tanker fleet, which moves oil around the world, funding Russian terror and war. The UK is one of the leaders in taking action against this fleet. But sanctions should go beyond just the tankers and companies involved—they must also target the captains of these vessels and all individuals connected to them. That can be achieved with adequate strength of our army, our long-range strike capabilities, and strong sanctions and pressure against Russia. This week alone, there were more than 1,500 strike drones, over 1,280 guided aerial bombs, and 50 missiles of various types. Thousands of foreign components have been found in this weaponry – more than 132,000 items – from many countries: Europe, the United States, China, Japan, and dozens of others. All these technologies help Russia create weapons on a large scale. All for the sake of terror against our people. If Russia is not stopped, this will surely become a threat to the countries of Europe and the Indo-Pacific. Strong sanctions are an instrument that will help stop this. We must cut off all possible supply routes and means of evading sanctions, and exert pressure on the countries and individual companies that aid them. Today, during our meeting with Mark Carney, we discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. And it is important that such decisions are being made. We also discussed formats of defense cooperation, Canada’s participation in financing the production of Ukrainian drones under the Danish model, and cooperation in the energy sector. Importantly, Canada will continue to provide Ukraine with energy support and assistance in recovery. I thank Mark for his strong position during the G7–Ukraine meeting and for all the support for our people. We truly have strong allies and the Prime Minister’s significant personal engagement in supporting Ukraine. And this is highly valuable.

And the greater the peace and security in one region, the more opportunities it brings to everyone in the world. Ukraine always calls on the world from this very position to support our defense and our work here, in Europe, for the sake of security. US Vice President J.D. Vance made a sharp statement warning Russia that it will be "very bad" for them if they do not actively engage in "good-faith" negotiations on Ukraine. It is assessed by the Danish Defense Intelligence Service that Russia sees itself in conflict with the West and is preparing for war against NATO. It is therefore crucial that we take bold and necessary decisions at the NATO Summit in The Hague in only three weeks from now. We need to invest massively in our collective security, all of us," Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said during a summit in Vilnius. She also called for continued support for Ukraine and for stronger sanctions against Russia. "We need to continue our strong and steadfast support for Ukraine's brave fight for freedom. We have to donate what is needed on the battlefield. We have to provide more financing for arms production directly going into Ukraine. We already have a mechanism that works. We have to implement stronger sanctions against Russia. It goes for the shadow fleet. Recently, we listed almost 200 additional vessels from the Russian shadow fleet. Every dollar paid for Russian oil is money for the war. More than 110 tankers from Moscow’s shadow fleet are currently at sea. That is $10 billion – a resource that is directly converted into new strikes against Ukraine. That is why it is important that Russian tankers are stopped, not allowed to deliver oil to ports. The key issue is whether our partners can influence Russia to accede to a full ceasefire—a durable silence that would allow us to seek a way out of this war.
