Over the past week, Russia launched nearly 1,550 attack drones against Ukraine, more than 1,260 guided aerial bombs, and two missiles. Over that same week, due to the easing of sanctions, Russia increased its crude oil sales to finance its war. Revenues give Russia a sense of impunity and the ability to continue the war. That is why pressure must continue and sanctions must work. Russia’s shadow fleet must not feel safe in European waters or anywhere else. Tankers that serve the war budget can and must be stopped and blocked, not just let go. I thank every leader who makes such decisions. This is what brings a dignified peace closer.

The infrastructure of the “shadow fleet” will face new pressure. Cryptocurrency schemes used by Russia to bypass sanctions will also be countered by Europe. I am grateful that many of Ukraine’s proposals have been taken into account in the EU sanctions package. We now expect strong sanctions steps from the United States as well – Europe is doing its part. Everyone can now see Russian interference – against Poland, and yesterday against Estonia. These are not accidental incidents. Russia will continue trying to spread its aggression, destabilization, and interference. This is their system. This must be countered, also systemically, and together. I thank everyone who is helping.

That can be achieved with adequate strength of our army, our long-range strike capabilities, and strong sanctions and pressure against Russia. Right now, we are defending ourselves from Russian attacks almost every day. This week alone, there were more than 1,500 strike drones, over 1,280 guided aerial bombs, and 50 missiles of various types. Thousands of foreign components have been found in this weaponry – more than 132,000 items – from many countries: Europe, the United States, China, Japan, and dozens of others. All these technologies help Russia create weapons on a large scale. All for the sake of terror against our people. If Russia is not stopped, this will surely become a threat to the countries of Europe and the Indo-Pacific. Strong sanctions are an instrument that will help stop this. We must cut off all possible supply routes and means of evading sanctions, and exert pressure on the countries and individual companies that aid them. The scale of today’s attack strongly indicates that Russia has no intention of really ending this war. If we take into account that Russia is also helping the Iranian regime to carry out strikes across the region, the conclusion becomes self-evident: without additional and strong pressure on Russia, without significant Russian losses, those in Moscow will not develop any desire to back down from the war and somehow come to terms with peace again. I am grateful to Canada for its new package of sanctions against more than 160 entities linked to Russia’s shadow fleet. Today, during our meeting with Mark Carney, we discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. And it is important that such decisions are being made. We also discussed formats of defense cooperation, Canada’s participation in financing the production of Ukrainian drones under the Danish model, and cooperation in the energy sector. Importantly, Canada will continue to provide Ukraine with energy support and assistance in recovery. I thank Mark for his strong position during the G7–Ukraine meeting and for all the support for our people. We truly have strong allies and the Prime Minister’s significant personal engagement in supporting Ukraine. And this is highly valuable.

And the greater the peace and security in one region, the more opportunities it brings to everyone in the world. US Vice President J.D. Vance made a sharp statement warning Russia that it will be "very bad" for them if they do not actively engage in "good-faith" negotiations on Ukraine. According to Vance, Trump believes the conflict harms everyone – Russia, Ukraine, and America – and is dissatisfied that Russia allegedly is not sufficiently committed to a peaceful resolution. "And here is what I will say about the president: he is keenly responsive to the reality on the ground. The key issue is whether our partners can influence Russia to accede to a full ceasefire—a durable silence that would allow us to seek a way out of this war. Right now, no one sees any such readiness from Russia. On the contrary, their internal rhetoric is increasingly mobilizing. Russian propagandists continue to threaten not only Ukraine but also other neighbors—Lithuania, the other Baltic states. This is exactly what we’ve been saying for a long time: without pressure on Moscow, Russia will continue to wage war. This is why global sanctions — sanctions on Russian energy, on banks — can definitely help establish peace. We are ready to move toward a ceasefire even starting today, if Russia is ready to take reciprocal steps: complete silence, a lasting ceasefire of at least 30 days. That’s a fair timeframe to prepare the next steps. Russia must stop the war—halt its assaults and shelling.

This is exactly what we’ve been saying for a long time: without pressure on Moscow, Russia will continue to wage war. This is why global sanctions — sanctions on Russian energy, on banks — can definitely help establish peace. We are ready to move toward a ceasefire even starting today, if Russia is ready to take reciprocal steps: complete silence, a lasting ceasefire of at least 30 days. That’s a fair timeframe to prepare the next steps. Russia must stop the war—halt its assaults and shelling.
