Yesterday, Kejriwal claimed citing mechanics that E20 petrol damages engines and fuel injectors. Here's what an actual mechanic says: E20 does not damage the engine or fuel injectors. Research also says same that at most, in older vehicles that are not E20-compatible, it may accelerate the deterioration of older rubber hoses, seals, or some plastic fuel system components if they are made from materials that are not ethanol-resistant. Journalist: My car's mileage was 10 to 11 in city. After E20 petrol, the mileage has been reduced to 7. Nitin Gadkari: You can't calculate avg of your car by yourself. Only a machine can check your avg and only then I will believe that mileage of your car has reduced. I do understand that there are lots of misinformation and fake videos regarding E20 petrol. But Nitin Gadkari's stance that E20 Petrol is not affecting cars is absolutely laughable. Even if I assume that E20 Petrol is not harming E20 compliant cars but what about cars which are only E10 compliant. Nitin Gadkari has no idea about how much people are turning against him. The decision to rush E20 Petrol and impose it on everyone within such a short time is not looking good now.

Did a simple ethanol check myself yesterday! Watch it till the end! Took 170 mL of E20 petrol, added 20 mL of water, shook it well, and after the layers separated, the water/ethanol layer measured 40 mL. That suggests roughly 20 mL of ethanol in 170 mL of fuel around 11.8% ethanol (roughly E12), not E20. If my calculations are correct, then I have a genuine question: has the ethanol content quietly been reduced from E20 to E12 temporarily because of a widespread backlash? or is there another explanation for these results? Either way, this also shows how readily ethanol attracts water and what moisture inside a fuel tank can potentially do over time. Happy to be corrected if my calculations or the test method are wrong!! ☺️
